Leaside residents have a brand-new music school to attend, and it’s right where you might expect it: on top of the country’s largest piano retail facility. Merriam School of Music have opened a new campus in the space at the historic Robert Lowrey Piano building at 943 Eglinton Avenue East.
Robert Lowrey Pianos was established around the late ’70s, while Merriam School of Music has been around for 34 years (since 1988). The famed showrooms of Robert Lowrey’s Piano Experts have long been the centre of piano life in Canada, and in 2020 received a much-acclaimed makeover and expansion by new owners Merriam Pianos. But new for 2022, one of the unused showrooms has now been completely remodelled to host a new teaching facility. It adds a third location to Merriam School of Music’s GTA presence, whose programs are high-school credit certified. The new campus offers piano, vocal and guitar lessons.
