90-minute power outage between Yonge to Bayview Friday

Thousands of homes across central Midtown were blacked out Friday afternoo0n from about 1 until 2.30 p.m. The outage as shown on the Hydro blackout map ranged from Yonge St to Bayview Ave and from about Davisville Ave to the Rosedale Valley Rd. Micheal Packham was one of many area residents tweeting with Hydro. He said he had heard a loud bang from a utility pole nearby as his lights went out.

Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp suffer 6+ hour outage

Facebook is suffering its worst outage since 2008. Services for all three Facebook-owned social networks went down just before noon ET. At time of writing this post, they have been down for more than 3 hours…and counting. CBC, CNBC

Severe thunderstorm watch in place for this evening

A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for the GTA for Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. A warning was briefly issued, but was returned to “watch” status soon after. “Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.” The Weather Network predicts that rain could hit midtown around 5:50pm.

New one-way sections of Roehampton and Broadway Aves

New signage has been installed to enforce new rules on Roehampton and Broadway Avenues between Mount Pleasant and Yonge Street. New regulations in “The Yonge/Eglinton Construction Hub” involve parking restrictions, while the most significant change appears to be the creation of the new one-way roads. Roehampton Avenue, between Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue is now one-way for eastbound traffic only. While Broadway Avenue, between Mount Pleasant Avenue and Yonge Street is one-way for westbound traffic only.

“The Yonge/Eglinton Construction Hub was created to provide coordination amongst the large number of redevelopment projects that are currently taking place and are proposed within a small geographical area, as a way to improve safety, mitigate the impacts of construction traffic and ensure consultation between the parties involved.” Read full 15 page report here. The Blue Jays are coming home to Rogers Centre July 30th

The Toronto Blue Jays were given approval from the Canadian government on Friday for an exemption on border restrictions that would allow them to play in Canada later this month, Canada’s immigration minister said. The Blue Jays asked the federal government to allow them to play at Rogers Centre starting July 30 and wanted a response by Friday. AP

East Harbour development requesting a residential boost

UrbanToronto is reporting that the “change has rustled some feathers. The former industrial site sits within one of 29 “provincially significant employment zones” in Ontario, and its current zoning does not allow for residential uses”. More
