Go figure. Online shopping giant Amazon, is considering moving fulfillment centres into suffering bricks & mortar shopping malls. Plus, Cloverdale Mall is targeted for a makeover. Urban Toronto describes QuadReal’s plan as a transformion into a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented community complete with thousands of new residents, a neighbourhood park, and plenty of new, reimagined retail.
Fire at Broadway hostel contained with no reported injuries
by
•The city has just put out a very bare bones press release saying there was a fire this afternoon at the emergency shelter on Broadway that has been the source of much concern. "The fire has been contained and there are no reports of injuries at this time." https://t.co/06dYx3PExv

Tip-toe over to the butterflyway canoe at Leaside Library
by
•If you’re out for a walk, be sure to pass by Leaside Library’s red canoe at McRae Drive and Rumsey Road. There will likely be a butterfly or two visiting the colourful scene. As part of David Suzuki Foundation’s Butterflyway Project, these pollinator friendly gardens are filled with native wildflowers, creating highways of habitat for beneficial bugs. The project has taken root in more than 100 communities throughout the country. We’re a fan. davidsuzuki.org/butterflyway.

•The CafeTO program is transforming curb lanes throughout the City of Toronto. Maybe this could be an annual summer event — what do you think?

CafeTO program is transforming City streets, and we love it

•Enjoyed some delicious tacos & corn from Mariachi's (2084 Yonge) in @midtownbia for #BikeFridays. Plus the first day of #CafeTO on Yonge! Public space now supporting pedestrians, planters, patios, patrons – perhaps 🚲 next? 😉 #BuyLocalBikeLocal #BikesLoveYonge #BikeTO pic.twitter.com/ByNax3Ropj

Yesterday, midtown Yonge was transformed by #cafeTO. Look at this. Interim materials but incredible impact. On-street patios mean more sidewalk space for #walkTO. Cars allowed, but drivers more cautious. And there's even some space for #BikeTO. pic.twitter.com/2wbkMNAF5n

This is the experience from #bikeTO's perspective next to the new #CafeTO installations in @midtownbia on Yonge. The patio dwellers were having a really fun (and fairly safe) time. pic.twitter.com/tQENVmejnX

Taking it to the streets. Two local restaurants are sharing a new space right on Mount Pleasant Ave. (Hazel's Diner by day, and Wild Chicory at night) . Terrific idea!.@pivotgreen2020 @jen_keesmaat pic.twitter.com/NXQxd1Bq4Y

Councillor Josh Matlow in self-isolation due to COVID-19
by
•A statement published Monday by Josh Matlow, Ward 12, reads: I have just been informed that I came into contact this past Thursday, March 5th, with an individual who has tested positive for COVID – 19 (Novel Coronavirus) upon their return from a conference in Washington, DC. While I am completely asymptomatic, out of an abundance of caution, and on the advice of Dr. Eileen de Villa, the City’s Medical Officer of Health, I am going into self-isolation until March 20th.
It is very important to note that I have been informed by Dr. de Villa that because I am asymptomatic, no one, including my family, is at an elevated risk of having contracted the virus due to contact with me. The Medical Officer of Health, and her excellent team, have provided me with prompt, informative advice, as they have to all Toronto residents since the virus was discovered. It is important that everyone seek information regarding COVID – 19 from credible sources, such as Toronto Public Health, and follow expert advice.
During my isolation period, I will unfortunately have to cancel all public events, including a community meeting to support Mabel’s Fables tomorrow evening, March 10th. The meeting will be rescheduled and the new date, time, and location will be communicated to residents as soon as possible.
For more information about COVID – 19 and how to protect yourself and your family, please visit the City of Toronto’s webpage. If you have travelled from Hubei Province, China, or Iran within the last 14 days or have had close contact with a person ill with COVID-19, please self-isolate and contact Toronto Public Health at 416-338-7600 within 24 hours of arriving in Toronto.
Councillor Josh Matlow”

Significant snow, freezing rain or rain possible Wednesday
by
•Special Weather Statement Issued at 14:58 Monday 24 February 2020
Significant snowfall, freezing rain or rain possible Wednesday and Wednesday night. Current indications suggest that precipitation associated with a Texas Low will move into the area early Wednesday morning. The precipitation may begin as snow then change to rain or freezing rain or continue as snow. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm are possible in areas where the precipitation falls primarily as snow. There is much uncertainty regarding the track of this low. Any change in the track could drastically change snowfall amounts and precipitation types. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
