Meet the maple glazed doughnut cheeseburger
by •
Sure, it’s a publicity stunt but they’re actually going to feed these things to people. You are looking at a bacon cheeseburger between two maple-glazed doughnuts. It will be waiting for visitors to the Canadian National Exhibition. It’s from those crazy folks at Krispy Kreme. And some loopy kids will eat one (or more). There’s 1500 calories in it incidentally and a cholesterol count that is off the meter.
Developer solicits tenants on Laird where geese play in mud
by •
While Canada Geese live it up in the mud and water behind the hoarding at Leaside Village, 85 Laird Drive, the developer is busy with signs that are intended to find tenants for the new shops. The slick representation of how the finished development will appear shows every building with the generic “Signage” over the door. There’s only the slightest hint of the old railway building, seen at the edge of a picture with its arched window.

The writer suggests that Mayor Ford send a notice to each home showing what it will cost to keep all the things we have and asking taxpayers to agree to pay the estimated tax increases associated with each. The column.

Both General Motors and Toyota have announced plans to assemble new vehicles in Ontario. GM will assign the Oshawa plant to make the anticipated new Caddy intended to compete with the largest models produced by BMW and Mercedes. Production will begin next year. Toyota said it will assemble its RAV4 crossover utility vehicle at its plant in Woodstock. The RAv4 has an electric car component. Toyota has obtained a $71 loan (repayable) from the federal government and grant of the same amount from Ontario. Together they cover about 25 percent of the cost of tooling up the Woodstock plant to assemble the RAV4.

Waste to Energy should be our future
by •
This is a CBC Television story about the promising technology known as Waste to Energy Incineration, or WtoE for short. There continues to be a forceful advocacy program against incineration in Toronto and in fact many schools teach opposition to incineration. But science is saying this approach is not sensible. WtoE is clean. When you factor in the exhaust of trucks used to move garbage to landfills, it is very clean. WtoE is used in many parts of Europe, Japan and in parts of the United States. In places like Toronto, which continue to foul farmland with garbage, this apparently clean and efficient method is being considered by forward thinking municipal officials.
