Horses who died in fire are named in note from Sunnybrook

A coach from Sunnybrook Stables posted a note on Facebook expressing gratitude for the community’s support and grief over the loss of their cherished horses. In the note, the deceased horses are named. We found photos of ten out of the sixteen horses who died in the fire on the Sunnybrook Stables website and have posted them here. If you have photos or memories to share, we encourage you to share them on our Facebook page.  Our hearts go out to the equestrian community as we all mourn the loss of these gentle souls.  The note reads,

As many of you will have heard Sunnybrook Stables caught fire early this morning.  We are deeply grateful to Toronto Fire and to the Toronto Mounted Unit for their help.  Their efforts resulted in the successful evacuation of the back barn and all horses in that barn are safe.  They are currently housed at the Horse Palace.  All have been checked by our vet and are well.

On behalf of all of us at The Riding Academy and at Sunnybrook Stables, I want to thank everyone who took the time to reach out, come down, send condolences, and for the many thoughtful offers of assistance.  Our Sunnybrook and Horse Palace herds are cherished member of our family, and it is with incredible sadness that we mourn the loss of Mr. T, Beau, Sutherland, Sandy, Sampson, Axel, Sugar, Blossom, Poomba, Hercules, Apollo, Phoenix, Marty Misty, Tess and Gifford.  These horses were wonderful teachers and friends, the best of the best.  We loved them dearly, and we are beyond devastated.  They are forever in our hearts.

As many as 100,000 customers across Toronto were without power Friday night as a result of the surprisingly damaging afternoon wind storm.  A large outage eoccurred in near East York across the Don Valley. The blackout stretched from Danforth across Mortimer Ave up to parts of O’Connor Drive. Toronto Hydro appealed for patience as it worked to restore electricity. Former CTV reporter Naomi Parness tweeted a picture of shingled and social media saw dozens of photos of fallen trees. Caution is still urged around downed power lines. Toronto Hydro suggests drivers stay at least 10 metres back (length of a school bus) to be safe.

BIA Streetscape proposals shown for Bayview and Millwood

A public meeting held by the Bayview Leaside BIA to discuss the Bayview Ave. streetscape heard a variety of suggestions in response to early planning ideas. They are seen in images below as written. Those present saw schematic images from the consulting firm The Planning Partnership plus Steers Davies Gleave. Depictions showed benches and trees on “flankages” such as the north side of Millwood east of Bayview. It’s hoped to plant new trees which will rise from the sidewalk level on both sides. Decorative maps called “standing screens” (above) were shown. The budget is currently at close to $297,300. BIA sharing calls for half of  approved costs to be paid by the City. The remainder comes from monies levied on merchants and landlords by the BIA. In this case some $50,000 of City money is on hand from Councillor Burnside (Ward 26). He told The Bulldog he secured the current money from the Toronto street beautification office. Then later, as part of Section 37 agreement with Shane Baghai, he secured another 50k for a total of $100k. This was offered voluntarily because the development property, 3 Southvale, is below minimum size threshold for Section 37. Money from Ward 22 is said to be pending.

Auto Exotica displays world’s most breathtaking hypercars

This year’s Canadian International AutoShow wrapped up in Toronto yesterday. The Bulldog stopped by for a quick visit. Auto Exotica, presented by Castrol and the National Post, was truly a sight to see.

Koenigsegg Agera RS (presented by Pfaff McLaren)
The AutoShow website created much anticipation for this one. “The star attraction in Auto Exotica this year will be a vehicle making its first introduction to Canada – the World’s Fastest Production Car – the Koenigsegg Agera RS. On Nov. 4, 2017, Koenigsegg AB took the Agera RS to the Nevada desert and smashed five existing production car speed records, including setting the highest top speed achieved by a production vehicle at 457.94 km/h, (284.55 mph).”

Pagani Huayra Roadster (presented by Pfaff McLaren)
Our personal show favourite, this was a piece of art. No need to be a gearhead to appreciate the workmanship that went into this stunning hypercar. Absolutely breathtaking. We learned that only 100 of this Italian beauty will be produced, each one at a cost of €2.28 million.
