Sunnybrook-bound rider waits 30 minutes for 11 Bayview

Yszi Hawkings was on Twitter Wednesday morning complaining about the slow motion of the 11 Bayview bus again today. She picks it up at Davisvile station to get to Sunnybrook Hospital and today the wait during rush hour was more than 30 minutes. Yzsi got off the train at 8.13 so a wait of half an hour would make her very late for work. Service is supposed to be every five minutes She tweeted @TTCnotices about this “abysmal” service and got an apology. Not worth much if the boss is cranky.

Many in the dark but South Bayview dodges the bullet

It’s an on and off mess in North York and Scarborough tonight with as many as 10,000 customers without power. Yorkdale Shopping Mall, which lost power and then regained it, has lost it again, according to reports The effect of the snow and clicking little ice pellets has had an impact on power transformers in a rather surprising degree. Hydro says it is working at top speed but as usual the power restoration will occur in stages. South Bayview has dodged the power outage bullet this evening as is shown on the linked Hydro outage map

Phaneuf, wife Elisha, teammate Lupul want cash for libel

There was a time, ten years or so ago, that it was not possible for a jerk to defame respectable people because he had no megaphone. Now every jerk has got one. It’s called Twitter. Leaf captain Dion Phaneuf and his girl friend, Elisha Cuthbert and fellow Leaf Joffrey Lupul. were subjected to a despicable defamation during last night’s hockey game. Unfortunately, the guys at TSN thought it would be a great idea to just run the tweets unedited and unchecked. Now the parties are suing TSN, which is owned by Bell media. Bell also has an interest in the Leafs. Did we say that Bell is too big?. “We have sent a letter to TSN demanding that TSN issue a formal apology and pay a significant amount of damages to each of our clients for broadcasting a false and defamatory tweet during their trade deadline show yesterday,” lawyer Peter Gall says in a statement. During the broadcast on Monday, TSN was airing tweets at the bottom of the screen with the hashtag #TradeCentre. One of the tweets that made it to air mentioned Phaneuf, Cuthbert and Lupul. TSN’s director of communications later tweeted an apology to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and those impacted, saying that the tweet “should have never, ever gone to air.” Gall says that his legal team has also sent out a similar letter demanding an apology and damages to the author of the tweet, Anthony Adragna. “It is bad enough that there are people who spend their time using social media to publish such false and malicious stories, but it is made much worse when a reputable media outlet like TSN gives broad circulation and credibility to these false stories by republishing them as TSN did,” Gall’s statement says.

Captures from CBC video show kids in frame as woman tries to cover herself

A woman is using Windsor public library branches to stream video to  paying customers as she exposes herself and does other lewd things. It is apparently the availability of the computer equipment and cameras that prompts the woman, known as Little Secret, to use the libraries for this purpose. Otherwise, it would seem there must be a better place. Everyone is shocked and it is especially concerning to see children bouncing around in the background trying to get the woman’s attention while she covers up.  CBC Video

Moms-to-Be closing on Bayview Ave and Research Rd

Karen Becker

Moms-to-Be-and-More will close on Bayview Ave on Sunday, May 3, its owner Karen Becker has announced. In a statement, Ms Becker said the large multi-store shop at Bayview and Manor Rd. will close Sunday May, 3, 2015. The satellite location on Research Rd will close on July 5, 2015. Recently the company said it was downsizing by letting go two storefronts at the north end of its large premises. Over the years, the dynamic Ms Becker had parlayed the corner premises into a four storefront behemoth. In her statement she thanked clients, suppliers and staff “for being a huge part of the success of my store”. The Bayview location opened shortly after the turn of Y2K having seen both a Black’s Camera (before Blacks was owned by Telus) and a Mr. Sub (not Subway Sandwich) shop open and close in short order. In closing, Ms Becker said: “It has truly been an honour and pleasure to share in so many of my clients’ happiest moments. From baby’s first steps to first pregnancies, there have been too many amazing moments to mention and I now hold them in my heart as fond memories. I hope in turn we also hold a special place in the hearts of all of you.” It is perhaps coincidental that another childrens’ clothing store Never Grow Up is scheduled to open this Spring at the location previously held for many years by Newsome Photography

Spock fans deface Canuck fiver to look like Vulcan hero

spock bill
Misguided Leonard Nimoy fans have been defacing the Canadian five dollar bill to turn it into a look-a-like of his Star Trek character First Officer Spock. It’s gotten so bad that the Bank of Canada is asking fans to please stop. A drive was apparently launched in the aftermath of Nimoy’s death on Friday to ink the features of his most famous character on the Beaverbuck five because the original face there belongs to a similar looking gent named Sir Wilfrid Laurier. He was our seventh prime minister. Large numbers of the notes in circulation now show Laurier with Spock’s pointy ears, trademark haircut and eyebrows, a Star Trek badge and the character’s mantra “live long and prosper”. The stunting is not illegal but — please, says the bank — it’s Canadian money. Marking the bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. The Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.”
