Ontario to sign feds child care scheme but details vague
by
•See later story. Canadian Press has sent out word that Ontario will sign the federal scheme for child-car support Monday although the details remain vague and some might call them cryptic. Read the bulletin below:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford will make an announcement Monday morning after the two sides reportedly reached a $10.2 billion deal to subsidize the cost of child care last night. Sources from both the federal and provincial governments told The Canadian Press Sunday that they had agreed on a deal, with Ontario becoming the final jurisdiction in the country to sign on to the $30 billion accord. Ontario had been holding out for more money, but reportedly did not receive any additional funds as part of the deal. Instead, the two sides agreed on additional flexibility in how the money is spent and a review mechanism that initiates in three years where Ontario can ask the federal government for more money. The announcement will take place somewhere in the Greater Toronto Area at 11 a.m.

Hey Kam, courage of 1941 and those U11 Leaside tough guys
by
•At the upper left is the most deserving winner of the 2022 Agnes Macphail Award. She is Kam Babulal, a caring woman who has volunteered in countless worthy causes across East York for many years. Hey Kam, thank you. Below that, Leslivillian Cindy Wilkes has snapped a pretty 6 a.m. moon near her home. Then, at the right, Aileen Greenland poses with her artillery officer husband Laurie in their Leaside backyard in 1941. They knew what was coming and faced it with courage. Lower right are two pictures that show Leaside High alumnus Zach Edey outside Starbucks and then helping the Purdue Boilermakers beat Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament. Zach stands 7 feet, 4 inches and is described by one of his teachers as the nicest young man you could meet. Lastly, at lower left, the shining faces of those Leaside Wildcats U11A tough guys described by their coaches as absolutely relentless competitors. We love that kind of grit.
