Man dead, 3 injured as cement truck hits SUV
by
•A horrifying fatal accident in which an SUV was rear-ended was witnessed by a man out campaigning for re-election this month. Jess Prothero says he heard a cement truck ram into the passenger vehicle as it slowed to turn left into a driveway of a retail farm store. It is a classic situation in which an expected turn (into a driveway) catches a driver (in the cement truck) unawares. A man in the SUV is dead, a woman who is six month pregnant is at St. Michael’s Hospital and a 6-year-old girl is at the Hospital for Sick Children with serious head injuries. A woman, 50, is also in a local hospital. It happened on Tottenham Road south of the Town of New Tecumseth. The Mississauga News quotes Prothero: He said there were four people in the vehicle — two women, a man and a young girl. After the crash, Prothero said he and another bystander pulled the child from the car and the other man performed CPR on her. “We got her breathing again, but she’s not in good shape,” Prothero said. Just before EMS arrived at scene, he said they also pulled the man, who was unresponsive, from the vehicle. Police say the cement truck driver, a woman, received minor injuries.
Mode Suzan’s inspiring broken-window story
by
•The broken window |
Lorna Beddall of Mode Suzan has an inspiring follow up to the story on the broken front window at her Bayview Ave. shop. She tells The Bulldog: “On August 21, 2014 some young adults (ages 19 and 20) were roughhousing and one of them knocked the other into my front window and shattered it. It was an accident. They called the police and waited for them to arrive. The police called me and when I arrived, he told me the boys offered to pay for the damages as it was their fault. We exchanged our information, cleaned up the broken glass and went home. The next day one of the boys called me and asked about the cost to repair the window. My deductible is $1000 so each boy would pay $500. A few hours later he arrived at the store with $500 cash. Three days after that I went to the other boy’s home and picked up the remaining $500. These well-brought-up boys accepted the responsibility for the damage caused. How wonderful! I offered to give them a letter of recommendation for their honesty. This is a lovely good will story to be shared with the fine people of Leaside.” Thanks so much for sharing this Lorna. Previous post
Sneezing man says “I have Ebola” on crowded jet

•A passenger flying from Philadelphia to the Dominican Republic was taken off a U.S. Aireways plane on arrival after sneezing and yelling: “I have Ebola!”. The remaining 255 passengers were made to stay on board for two hours. The unnamed passenger, who doesn’t have Ebola, was escorted off the plane by officials as he declared: “I ain’t from Africa”. The man had reportedly been sneezing and coughing, which are said to be early signs of having the deadly virus, throughout the four-hour journey to Punta Cana Google
Election: Ari Goldkind factor sillier than silly
by
•Did we call it the silly season? Today there is furious media and candidate discussion with straight faces of Ari Goldkind. It’s okay. You have not missed anything important. Mr. Goldkind is just a candidate for mayor, one of dozens who does not have a chance in a million of getting elected. He is however something for Doug Ford to talk about. Mr. Ford says Ari Goldkind is John Tory’s tag-team partner and that Tory, the frontrunner, is afraid to debate without him. Ford says he won’t appear at any debate where Goldkind appears. There’s more than a little bad blood between them after Goldkind accused Ford of being anti-semitic. In fairness, it is curious how Mr. Goldkind gets to be present at any debate. He is a criminal lawyer but it’s hard to see in practical terms why he has any more business at debates with big-time candidates who can win than say Wally Schwauss or Tibor Steinberger.
Sarah’s Food Drive: #Leaside thank you Tweets
by
•Mark Jordan is among the busiest of Tweetmasters this week as he thanks and encourages the many people who have contributed to Sarah and Claire’s Food Drive. These two young ladies are Mark’s daughters and their annual efforts to raise food for the Daily Bread Food Bank is the stuff of neighbrhood legends. Everyone is looking forward to the exciting and furious preparation of food baskets this Saturday outside Chad McDowell’s valu mart, a brief but enthusiastic event that sees school kids making a difference. Among those in the thank you list at Leaside and #Leaside are Charlene Kalia, Patrick Rocca, Bonnie Byford Real Estate, Against The Grain Tavern, Midtown Orthodontics, McSorely’s Grill and Wonderful Saloon, SportClips on Bayview and Wisey’s Pies and Bake House on Eglinton E. Of course there are many more. Our thanks too for making South Bayview such a generious and decent place.
Schwartz, union bid billions for 75% for LCBO
by
•CTV says that ONEX Corporation (the mining behemoth controlled by Gerry Schwartz) and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) have offered the Ontario government $11 billion in cash for 75% of the LCBO. There would be other players, a consortium of banks, but the majority of shares, according to CTV, would be held by the union. Premier Kathleen Wynne has already said (in the summer) that the government will not go forward with such a plan, but many think the temptation for this deeply-strapped province may be too great. The government would retain 25% of the ownership of the LCBO.

“Cops must stop guys from posting nude pix”
by
•A student at UBC is outraged that police kept asking her if she gave those nude pictures of herself to her now estanged boyfriend willingly. She did. But, she says, what’s that got to do with why the cops can’t stop guys from doing this. That’s what the lady wants. The Province Nude online? It’s mom’s rule vs the United Nations.
