Remenyi House of Music will move to Vanderhoof next year

Remenyi House of Music, 210 Bloor St. West, will move to 109 Vanderhoof Ave early in the New Year, the company confirms. Remenyi has purchased the space now occupied by St. John’s Music and ultimately will have two locations after renovations at the Bloor St address.

Long history dates to 19th Century Budapest

The first Remenyi House of Music opened in 1890 in Budapest, Hungary. The family and the store survived two world wars, but once the Communist regime took hold in Hungary in 1951, all of the shop’s inventory was confiscated. In 1959, founder Zoltan Remenyi and his family fled Hungary and came to Canada

Border reopens but pricey PCR test remains

Yes, the US-Canada border opens Monday but the requirement for a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test to get back into Canada complicates things. They’re expensive in the US. This CBC report suggests that day-trippers can get it done here before they leave. If presented the same day to Canada Customs, it remains valid when you come back.

SB 2: Leaside wants to know, Stuff Plus and Brentcliffe high

There is much curiosity at Leaside Village, home of the big Longo’s, about just what will be housed in the new building at the corner of Laird Drive and Industrial St. Employees at the popular shopping spot say they’re mystified. One told The Bulldog even employees of the owner, First Capital, weren’t sure. It appears the tenants will be fast food places. Leaside wants to know.

At RioCan’s Leaside Centre on the southeast corner of Eglinton Ave E and Laird, Kitchen Stuff Plus has popped into the empty PetSmart space for a two-year run. That’s the length of the lease, say employees, and it signals just where RioCan stands with the planned redevelopment of the corner. KSP is known as a store that dotted Yonge St for decades but things change. Inside the cavernous place are tons of dishes, cookware, appliances and various oddments such as Nespresso and Popcorn machines.

The much-diminished Lake Leaside is seen above and many people know of plans by SmartCentres to see it become a big box heaven including Canadian Tire. CTC will move from the RioCan centre but as seen above, it has at least two years to ponder where it will go.

And then there’s the out-of-nowhere 939 Eglinton development at the corner Eglinton and Brentcliffe Rd. Isn’t it nice they didn’t try for 98 storeys.

Edward Rogers BC court victory hurls RCI into uncertainty

As reported by Reuters and published at CP24, BC Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick has found that Edward Rogers has successfully created a new board of directors of the national firm RCI. Rogers Communications immediately filed a motion to appeal the BC court decision. Lawyers for the company asked the judge to put a stay on her ruling coming into force, in order to give them time to appeal. But the CBC account contains a view that an appeal makes little sense. Professor Richard Powers with the Rotman School of Management in Toronto said: “It’ll be a moot point because Edward will make the changes that he wanted to do. The senior management team will be gone. His directors will be in place and things move forward.”

A Canadian court on Friday backed a petition by former Rogers Communications Inc chairman Edward Rogers to validate a new board constituted by him, in a ruling that could result in a major management shakeup in the country’s biggest wireless carrier.

British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick announced the decision but did not immediately give her reasons.

A rare public fight in the Canadian corporate world was sparked over the question of who should lead the company and has weighed on the stock.

Some analysts have raised doubts about the fate of Rogers’ C$20 billion ($16.05 billion) bid for rival Shaw Communications. ($1 = 1.2464 Canadian dollars) (Reporting by David Ljunggren in Ottawa and Ismail Shakil in Bengaluru Editing by Chris Reese)
