Buses crowd Mt. Pleasant as Yonge useless with bike dream

The dream of single-lane car traffic accompanied by bicycle lanes on Yonge St. reduced Toronto’s main drag to a useless construction zone Saturday. The work coincided with the closure of eight stations on the Yonge line forcing heavy articulated shuttle buses to use Mt. Pleasant Rd.

The issue of re-making Yonge St and in particular the mass confusion of Saturday’s events are a social media subject for many.

A long-time resident, businesswoman and dear friend of many in the Bayview community has died. Hannelore Mohring passed on Tuesday. She had latterly been a member of the Bayview Pixies garden and community team. The Pixies Debora Kuchme published this tribute.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend Hannelore Mohring who peacefully passed on Tuesday June 15. Well-known for her many years as a restauranteur at the Deli-Cafe on Bayview (1961-1985) and as the grand dame of the Bayview Pixies, she was an inspiration of joy and positive life force to all who knew her. In the April 2018 issue of Leaside Life, Janis Fertuck wrote the article “Leaside’s legendary Hannelore Mohring’ where you can learn more about her long and amazing life. Sadly missed but never forgotten. The night skies will forever be brighter with her to look over us —The Bayview Pixies

An enjoyable article written by fellow Pixie Janice Fertuck was published in Leaside Life in 2018.

A mindless scuffle between a pickup truck driver and a cyclist at Dufferin and College Sts. was recorded. The date is unclear but it seems to be recent. It sees the cyclist stab at the truck tire as the incident appears to be ending. That sparks a running shoving match between the two men which is finally ended by a policeman.
