A community consultation meeting will be held May 13 on the bid by Medallion Developments to build a nine-storey structure at 1500 Bayview Avenue, the present site of the ValuMart store and Davenport Nurseries seasonal sales centre.

Sunnybrook greets army medical staff with MASH signpost

Staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre have welcomed Armed Forces medical officers and staff to the hospital with gratitude and an amusing signpost that recalls Canada’s heroic role in the Korean War. A tall makeshift signpost similar to those seen on the 1970s television program MASH has been set up outside Sunnybrook’s new temporary hospital where the soldiers will work. Some 58 armed forces medical staff will assist with the onslaught of C-19 patients at Sunnybrook. Vaccination anticipated for all over 18 by May 24 says Elliott

Ontario will open up vaccination to all adult citizens as of May 24, Health Minister Elliott said Thursday. Elliott said that five million residents have been vaccinated so far in the province of 14.7 million. News release

• Individuals aged 55 and over using the provincial portal

• Individuals aged 45 and over in hot spots

• Highest-risk health conditions

• Licensed child-care workers

Week of May 3

• Individuals aged 50 and over

• Cannot work from home Group 1

Week of May 10

• Individuals aged 40 and over

• At-risk health conditions

This includes essential and critical retail workers, those in manufacturing industries directly involved in supporting the COVID-19 response and other essential businesses and services with a heightened risk of outbreak, social workers, transportation, warehousing and distribution workers, courts and justice system workers, electricity, communications infrastructure workers, water and wastewater management workers, financial service workers, veterinarian teams, waste management workers, oil and petroleum workers, natural gas and propane gas workers, mine workers and uranium processing workers.

Retail workers include anyone working at grocery stores, food banks, pharmacies, ServiceOntario, ServiceCanada, Passport Canada, wholesalers and general goods, restaurants and LCBOs.

The big streaming firm has been doing business here for years, mostly to shoot successful films like Queen’s Gambit. Mayor John Tory made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday saying he had been informed of the decision earlier in the day. “It’s a very significant indication, another one, that people have confidence in the city as we should, those of us who live here,” Tory said. “It underlines our determination to protect jobs, to get new jobs, get new investment, and to make sure that we can have a strong recovery coming on the back end of this pandemic.”
