The Tim Horton’s located on the southwest corner of Bayview and Eglinton Avenues has opened its doors. Business began Thursday and the new owners are Kevin and Stella. They look forward to seeing you and are said to be on deck 24/7. Wow! The life of a Tim Horton’s franchisee.

Bayview BIA will know its name in the New Year
by •
The long-awaited results of the BIA vote will bring much curiosity as to what it should be named. Josh Matlow (Ward 22) who broke the news of the vote result on Twitter, has long favoured the name South Bayview BIA. That was the choice of The South Bayview Bulldog as well as nearly 80 percent of the people who voted in a Bulldog poll in August. The decision might seem almost automatic except that last summer former Councillor Parker suggested that the name Bayview Leaside should be used. A vote among the five members of the steering committee brought a split in favour of the Leaside name. Mssrs. Matlow and Parker were somewhat at odds until they reached a working compromise at City Council in August to get the voting process moving. The new BIA was left simply unnamed. Mr. Matlow has been a strong voice in favour of a name which is inclusive of those living on both sides of the street. As residents will know, Leaside sits to the east, Davisville Village to the west. Also, South Bayview has a long history and considerable name-recognition throughout the area. In a tweeted reply to area political gadfly and naturalist Rudy Limeback, Mr. Matlow said the new name will be chosen in the New Year. In a tweet late today he added that the decision will be made at the first Annual General Meeting of the BIA and that he will be present to speak for Ward 22 residents.

The Ten Spot set to open on South Bayview

An outlet for what appears to be dynamic chain of franchised nail and waxing shops is opening on Bayview Ave. The Ten Spot will move in at the former Country Store location. That’s at 1657 north of Fleming Cres. Welcome The Ten Spot Website
Essence du Papier now open on Bayview Ave.

A late flash from the north block indicates that Essence du Papier is now open at 1657 Bayview Ave. just north of Fleming Cres. This is a quality stationery and paper goods store operated by the Pierre Belvedere interests of Montreal.
Trees return to east side of South Bayview

Gardeners contracted by the city were busy Friday planting trees along the east side of the South Bayview business district. It has been a long wait from the 2010 reconstruction of the sidewalks that took away our greenery. Nice to see. Two scenes show (left) planting just outside Rosie’s and (right) looking across the street at Peaches and Green.
Essence du Papier to open at 1657 Bayview

A new stationery shop will be opening in the premises formerly leased by the Country Store at 1657 Bayview Ave. north of Fleming Cres. Renovation is underway and a sign in the window seeks a part-time associate. The name on the window sign is Essence du Papier, a subsidiary of the Pierre Belvedere company of Montreal. Essence du Papier has three other stores, two in Montreal and one downtown in Toronto. The Country Store closed in January after decades on South Bayview.
Q Living now open at 1622 South Bayview

Q-Living has opened at 1622 Bayview Ave. and the Korean family business appears to be a dynamic operation. The owner, Eddie, is there to greet you personally with his upbeat staff. They seem knowledgeable. Q-Living is a closely ordered treasure of some 16,000 items ranging from vitamins, frozen food and even a little fresh produce. On Sunday the store seemed busy with many customers, and potential customers, full of questions. It appears the Q-Living name is employed by other vendors but Eddie has one more store on Eglinton Ave. West west of Bathurst Street.
Winter clothing sale at Bayview pop up store
by •
There is a good-looking clearance of winter coats and related clothing in the former premises of the Country Store at 1657 Bayview Ave. north of Fleming Cres. This sale is the inventory of The Sign of the Skier, 2794 Yonge Street, which as many may know sells ski-related goods in the fall and winter and garden furniture in the summer. Bonnie de Mertis of the The Sign recalls for us that the firm has been in business for 50 years. Markdowns begin at 50 percent, we’re told. The pop up store is expected to last two weeks.
Lineups at liquidation sale at 1685 Bayview Ave

Shoppers were lined up to grab decor and furniture items being liquidated at 1685 Bayview Ave. Saturday morning. The nice patterned pillows we photographed yesterday and shown in the picture were snapped up in minutes. And business has been brisk all day at the store, Detail Interiors, as all inventory will be sold. The sale is expected to last about a month. That address is just north of Fleming Cres. and south of Leo’s Barber Shop. The store closed a few days ago after barely 18 months in business and now it appears the landlord has seized the inventory for unpaid rent. The agents are Danbury Liquidation Services.
