De La Mer has announced the closure of all of their stores

A notice on their website reads:

To our valued guests:

It is with deep sadness that we announce the permanent closures of our remaining stores at 1543 Bayview Avenue, 291 Roncesvalles Avenue and 189 Danforth Avenue as well as our online market shop.delamer.ca.

Our last day of serving you in-store will be Sunday June 11th, 2023.

Our last day of orders at shop.delamer.ca will be Thursday June 8th, 2023.

In 2011, David Illiatovitch-Owen took the helm of our company and grew it from a single location to four retail stores and a commercial commissary. More importantly, De La Mer has become known as one of Toronto’s leading fish mongers with emphasis on quality, service, and sustainability of product. This success has been due to David’s leadership and vision, our incredible crew, our partners, our suppliers, and you, our very loyal guests. As many of you know, David is battling advanced pancreatic cancer. He has made the painful decision to close the business to focus time on family.

We will continue to redeem loyalty points (with a 300-point minimum at our stores through Sunday June 11th, 2023.

We will miss seeing you and being in the great communities in which we have been located. Wishing each of you good health and fortune for the future.

In late May, De La Mer announced the closure of their shop at 728 St. Clair Avenue West; the last day of service at that location was Sunday, May 28th, 2023.

We believe we can speak on behalf of the whole neighbourhood as we wish David and his family all the very best as Dave continues his battle with cancer. ❤️

CaféTO curb lane café installations underway across TO

CaféTO curb lane café installations are underway throughout the City. This year marks the first summer of CaféTO as a permanent City of Toronto program with new requirements. This week City crews began installing traffic safety equipment to safely close curb lanes and allow restaurant and bar owners and operators to open their permitted curb lane cafés. As per City Council direction, curb lanes closed beginning Monday, May 15, to provide adequate time to complete spring road maintenance and cleaning activities. Installation of traffic safety equipment will continue through June for all remaining approved CaféTO curb lane locations.

It appears as though Mirage Mediterranean Restaurant (1620 Bayview), Darna Middle Eastern Kitchen (1613 Bayview) and Buono Ristorante (1566 Bayview) are setting up CaféTO curb lane installations on Bayview this year.

BAYVIEW BIZ: Spring brings new signs and big utensils

On Wednesday the sign was removed from the former Peaches & Green store to make way for a new Sage Pharmacy awning. They will be opening soon at 1516 Bayview Avenue. Ramona’s Kitchen (1608 Bayview Ave) continues to make progress with the installment of their playful neon sign plus gigantic spatulas, whisk & tongs.

Around the neighbourhood

The WORKS Craft Burger & Beer will be taking over the space next to the Beer Store and Metro up at Bayview and Eglinton. Formerly home to TOSTO Quickfire Pizza Pasta, the official address is 609 Roehampton Ave. Olive Oil Emporium has opened at 608 Mount Pleasant Road. L’amour Cafe & Pastry is holding a grand opening event on Apr 1st 2023, between 11am – 2pm at 927 Mt Pleasant Rd (north of Broadway). And finally, the cookie delivery company Midnight Cookie has recently opened a bricks & mortar location at 3 Manor Rd East.

BAYVIEW BIZ: A fancy door, sales, hot cross buns + more

A Friday walkabout brings some Bayview updates to your news feed.

Up at the north end we start our walkabout checking out the large hoarding that surrounds 1709 Bayview Ave. The permit says they are doing a “2-storey rear addition, and interior alterations to convert commercial/residential to commercial only – medical office (Optomotrist)”.

The storefront on the south side of the hoarding has been leased. Yay! Plus, the windows of the shop that was formerly The Academy of Culinary Arts has been neatly papered over indicating that may have been leased as well. Looks like we will have some new businesses to welcome soon.

The much anticipated restaurant named Ramona’s Kitchen (1608 Bayview Ave) has a fancy new custom door. Does this mean they will open soon? We hope so!

Eggstatic (1568 Bayview Ave) is temporarily closed while they repair a leak in the building.

Moving south, The Sign of the Skier has opened their popular pop-up shop at 1541B Bayview Ave. Catch their blowout sale from now until Easter.

April 1st is Doughnation Day at Cobs Bread (1539 Bayview Ave). $2 from every 6-pack of Hot Cross Buns will go towards helping a local community charity. Steps away from Cobs, in front of 1541B is a curious display encouraging businesses to “rent-a-bench”.

Tzatz (1609 Bayview Ave.) is embracing the beginning of spring with sale items displayed out on the sidewalk. Buono Ristorante (formerly known as Verdi, 1566 Bayview Ave.) have removed the structure that sheltered their patio in cooler weather. Another sign that warmer weather is in our future, and patios will open soon.

Bayview Biz: Rumour mill brings a doctor’s office to 1685

1685 Bayview Avenue appears to be leased

A Bulldog tipster has commented on our recent Bayview Biz update, stating that “I heard a rumour (from a fairly reliable source) that this will be a walk-in doctor’s office”. That sounds like a very welcome addition to the street. Thank you for the tip! We’ll keep an eye on the space and let you know if the rumours are confirmed.

Bayview Biz: A new Italian at 1566 and a big store is leased

Buono Ristorante, now open at 1566 Bayview Avenue

Verdi, Bayview’s stalwart Italian restaurant at 1566 Bayview Avenue has been rebranded as Buono Ristorante. The kitchen has been renovated and front of house refreshed. Looking good!

1685 Bayview Avenue appears to be leased

The extra large space that was formerly home to macFAB at 1685 Bayview Avenue appears to be leased. All the windows have been papered over, but there are no hints about who may be moving in. Let the guessing game begin! …let us know if you have any tips 😉

Bayview Biz: Drink Juice glows, Verdi reno, Blowfish art

The cozy patio space at Drink Juice Co. (463 Manor Rd E) has a nice glow at night courtesy of the new(ish) illuminated letters shining down from above. Very snazzy.

Around the corner, you’ll notice that the sign above Verdi Restaurant (1566 Bayview Ave) has been taken down during a kitchen renovation.

The newly opened Bad Blowfish Cafe (1595 Bayview Ave) is looking for local artists to be part of their gallery wall exhibits. If you’re looking display your art, comment on their Instagram post and they will send you the application.

Bayview Biz: Bad Blowfish Cafe and Sage Pharmacy

This week Bayview bids farewell to Charcoal Biryani. Bad Blowfish Cafe has taken over their space at 1595 Bayview Avenue. According to the Bad Blowfish Facebook page, today (December 19th) is their opening day.

The Bulldog also spotted a sign in the window of the former Peaches & Green location announcing the arrival of Sage Pharmacy at 1516 Bayview Avenue. “Personal service, expert advice” is what the sign says. Sage will be opening soon.

Welcome everyone!
