Eglinton Crosstown completion still unclear in rocky times

South Bayview has lived in a new normal for quite a few years now as construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT goes on. It is supposed to be finished by the end of 2022 but there are issues.

Councillor Josh Matlow wants CaféTO to look better and offer more protection for diners. We have to agree. Some restaurants have camouflaged the City’s orange cones and pylons so that you don’t really notice they’re there. But that shouldn’t be necessary. The City auditor has revealed waits as long as eight minutes for a chance to talk to 911. Wow. Then, former chief justice Beverley McLachlin is a non-permanent member of the Hong Kong Supreme Court. Is that odd, or what? Below that, a good giggle for those who remember the early days of the Internet. Microsoft is finally getting rid of Explorer. Lastly, just look at that luscious Strawbery Moon over the Acropolis. Lovely.

City streets: eglintonTOday, bridge rehab, Broadview Ext

The eglintonTOday Complete Street project proposes streetscape improvements and bikeways on Eglinton Avenue between Keele Street and Mount Pleasant Road. Virtual Public Meeting 1 is scheduled for June 22nd. There is also an online public survey running from June 8th – July 31st. Go to toronto.ca/eglintonTOday for more.

Notice has been circulated to inform that a bridge rehabilitation project will commence on June 6, 2022, with a proposed end date of December 1, 2022. The City of Toronto is planning to rehabilitate the CP Rail Bridge over Eglinton Avenue, east of Leslie. In order to complete the work, there will be road and sidewalk restrictions within the work zone. Traffic on Eglinton will be reduced to one lane westbound and one lane eastbound in the work zone. The City of Toronto is inviting people to provide feedback on the Broadview Avenue Extension Environmental Assessment Study by June 24, 2022. The study area, is bound by Eastern Avenue to the north, Lake Shore Boulevard East to the south, Don Roadway/Cherry Street to the west, and Booth Avenue to the east. Attend in-person drop-in event on June 20, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre, 870 Queen Street East or register for the virtual event on June 21, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. More info here.

Car fire closed St. Clair, from Yonge to Inglewood, Tuesday

Toronto Police were on scene on St. Clair Avenue East, near Avoca Avenue, just before 4:00pm on Tuesday for a car that was on fire. Occupants were reportedly, out of the vehicle. Road was cleared before 5:30pm.

Residents lament end of community policing in 53 Division

Toronto Police have confirmed to the CBC the end of community policing in much of the City including 52 Division, the large jurisdiction that includes midtown communities like Leaside and Davisville Village. It’s about money of course. The article quotes Midtown resident Didi Cameron

Carstowe Rd closed eight weeks for emergency sewer repair

Carstowe Road, the convenient “back door” to Moore Park is under Toronto Water contract 20-313Y2 for what is called emergency sewer repair. The City’s road closure map shows the road open. A sign at the east end of the closure says the road will be shut for eight weeks but there’s no start or end date shown.
