Bayview & Belsize Royal Bank will offer new layout, services

The Royal Bank branch located at 1554 Bayview Avenue is scheduled to start a renovation in September 2022. They say the new layout will offer “a new layout, removing counters, making it easier for our advisors to engage safely with clients; interactive areas where our advisors can assist you with new ways to bank; and free secure wi-fi”. Some over-the-counter services will be moving to community branches at Laird & Wicksteed and Bayview & York Mills.

A look back at Bayview’s Garden Court Apartments

Garden Court Apartments on Leaside Heritige Facebook Group: Exterior and interior photos of the Garden Court apartments on Bayview Ave when they were first completed and occupied in 1939-41.

Leaside Heritage has dug up a wonderful group of photos from the vast collection at Toronto City Archives. Have a look at the full size images of Bayview’s Garden Court Apartments, 1477 Bayview Avenue in the Leaside Heritige Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1710531289116032/posts/2215161698652986/.

You’ll see that when the apartments were built, they were located at 477 Bayview Avenue. The address was changed to 1477 after the Bayview Extension was constructed in 1959.

Renewing Overlea Boulevard, Public Events Round 2

The City of Toronto is inviting residents to learn more and provide feedback on the proposed changes to Overlea Boulevard. One change being considered is to replace the southbound-left vehicle turn from Don Mills Road onto Gateway Boulevard. The benefits of this change include better safety, transit, and overall traffic flow than the other option being considered which keeps the southbound-left turn for vehicles. Some motorists would need to use another route to get to their destination.

In March 2022 the City of Toronto held public consultations for the initial design concepts for Overlea Boulevard. Thanks to public feedback, they now have a recommended plan for Overlea Boulevard which:
– Improves safety for everyone
– Maintains roadways for driving, transit, deliveries, and emergency services
– Enhances the public realm for local residents and visitor

Review the recommended design concept on May 25, by visiting the project website.

Everybody’s a Nazi but me is Putin’s sorry “victory” message

The Competition Bureau is apparently quite opposed to the purchase of Shaw Communications (excluding Global News) by Rogers Communications of Toronto. Not surprising.

Hey Christine, planting Bayview and (yum) Northlea pizza

Christine Bentley joined friends locally to mark a birthday in recent days. If that isn’t CTV news, it ought to be. Then at the right the long-standing Project Breezy bicycle donation day held on June 12 in Thorncliffe Park. Below that is the Manor Road United Church’s Shelter Basket program for residents of the Roehampton Shelter. At the bottom we see that the Spring flowers are in on Bayview courtesy the Bayview-Leaside BIA. And yea, the Pizza Lunch at Northlea Elementary and Middle School on Rumsey Rd has survived the pandemic. It returns May 27.
