City, cabinet agree on plan for Dominion Foundry buildings

The City of Toronto and the Government of Ontario have agreed on a plan to incorporate the old Dominion Foundry buildings on Eastern Ave into any new residential development on the site. The property is owned by the province and was the subject of intense community resistance to demolishing the historic factories. No proposal has yet been made for the site. Images released this week from CORE Architects Inc. depict a structure in which the exteriors walls of the building form the first floor of a development. Mad rush to quit Aghanistan as human, terror horrors loom

President Biden has rebuffed appeals from G7 leaders to stay in Kabul, the Afghan capital, long enough to get refugees out of the newly conquered country. His answer: “The sooner we can finish the better.”  He said that “each day brings added risk to our troops” and warned of the growing threat of an attack from ISIS-K — ISIS in Afghanistan — on the Kabul airport. All of this is what has the world deeply concerned for further suppression of personal freedoms, the abuse of women and the creation of a simmering new centre for terrorist plotting. Will coming months see horrors even worse than those of 9-11? It isn’t silly to worry about another convulsion of young men on a mission to kill for God.

Is there grim news? Doc should say what he means and why

Dr. David Fisman has resigned from the Ontario Government’s advisory body known as the Science Table alleging political interference in the kind of information the board is making public. He also says there is a “grim” forecast circulating among Science Table doctors. Others deny that and Dr. Fisman doesn’t say just what he means by grim. Most laymen will find political interest in what the doctors are doing to be understandable. It’s an enormous issue of public importance. And very few people like the shutdown, even those who understand why it’s necessary. The most critical issue is Dr. Fisman’s “grim” alarm bell. What’s it mean? CBC
