New one-way sections of Roehampton and Broadway Aves

New signage has been installed to enforce new rules on Roehampton and Broadway Avenues between Mount Pleasant and Yonge Street. New regulations in “The Yonge/Eglinton Construction Hub” involve parking restrictions, while the most significant change appears to be the creation of the new one-way roads. Roehampton Avenue, between Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue is now one-way for eastbound traffic only. While Broadway Avenue, between Mount Pleasant Avenue and Yonge Street is one-way for westbound traffic only.

“The Yonge/Eglinton Construction Hub was created to provide coordination amongst the large number of redevelopment projects that are currently taking place and are proposed within a small geographical area, as a way to improve safety, mitigate the impacts of construction traffic and ensure consultation between the parties involved.” Read full 15 page report here. The Toronto Blue Jays were given approval from the Canadian government on Friday for an exemption on border restrictions that would allow them to play in Canada later this month, Canada’s immigration minister said. The Blue Jays asked the federal government to allow them to play at Rogers Centre starting July 30 and wanted a response by Friday. AP

As Ontario enters Step 3 of its re-opening plan, some changes have come to light on South Bayview. It appears as though we’ve hit the end of an era with Pat’s Barber Shop (708 Millwood Rd) in the dark today. Over at the former home of Banana Nail Boutique (or, F5 before them), a building permit suggests that an ice cream shop may be moving in. Yum yum. We are pleased to see that there is construction activity up at 1620 Bayview, the former home of Two Dogs Sports Bar. The building permit mentions a “new restaurant”. Environment Canada confirms tornado hit Barrie Thursday

Environment Canada has preliminarily rated the tornado as an EF-2 with 210 km/h winds. Barrie Fire Chief Cory Mainprize says between 100 and 150 structures were damaged in the tornado and approximately 60 are considered uninhabitable at this time. Mayor Jeff Lehman said a total of 11 people suffered injuries but that none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. CBC

Tornado force winds have caused heavy damage in the Barrie and Lake Simcoe area. Photos and videos show a lot of destruction. According to the Environment Canada alert issued just before 2:50 p.m., meteorologists were tracking a severe storm near Innisfil. The storm was reported to be moving east at around 65 km/h.
