| Leaside arena Tuesday |
The William Lea Room was busy Tuesday morning with people lined up to vote in the advance poll. The arena building at 1073 Millwood Rd is the only advance poll in Ward 26. That’s the rule in all wards. In Ward 27, the Commmunity Centre at 519 Church Street was also busy. And on this first of six advance polling days comes word of a rather feeble effort to sell beer because there is an election. It’s enough to justify all the terrible things the formerly tea-total electoral system used to say about boozing. This time it’s called (groan) Happy Voting Hour. Apparently you don’t have to vote to buy beer and to drink. Yeah. No one seems to have figured out that the Happy Voting Hour might actually deter people from voting. The places doing this shall be nameless. Where to vote locally

Jane Pitfield voices concerns about John Tory
by •
Jane Pitfield has been interviewed by that stormy petrel Sue-Ann Levy. Pitfield, a well-known Leaside politician and former condidate for mayor is concerned Tory is too connected to big business and among other things will not be a sufficiently tough watchdog on the costs of the Pan Am games. It is an interesting initiative for Pitfield. Although she has always been to the right of many of her fellow Progressive Conservatives. And of course Sue-Ann has taken the ball and run with it. The picture is from the 2010 general election campaign when Pitfiend and Tory, both out of office, did some mainstreeting with candidate Jon Burnside. Burnside finished a close second then and of course is in the race again for council in Ward 26. Jane and Sue-Ann, together again.Sad Leaside jitney “smashed, burnt up” in 1925
