As scheduled, the prepared meals business known as Todays Menu has opened at 850 Millwood Rd., at the corner of Rumsey. The small shop has a simple set up of order desk and freezers with entrees available for those who wish to pop in and buy a few. The kitchen is off site. The main business however is delivering meals to area residents. As reported here earlier, Todays Menu specializes in prepared meals which are delivered according to requirement. Houses torn down on Laird Drive

Two tumbledown old houses (inset) on Laird Drive have been demolished at the location known as 127-129 Laird Drive. The site will become Gyro Hyundai, a new dealership operated right across the street from Gyro Mazda by the same owners. Other demolition remains to be done on the site, which is owned by DEL Truck Equipment As we noted in. January of 2011, a Hyundai dealership will be a good start to bringing back authorized car service to South Bayviewland and surrounding area. There was to have been a large auto plaza built on the old railway site at Laird and Esander Dr but the owners bailed out when the crash of 2008 occurred. China, a key diplomatic ally of North Korea, has so far been silent after Pyongyang launched a long-range rocket, which failed shortly after blastoff. The official Xinhua news agency, China’s mouthpiece, quoted media reports from other countries regarding the launch. But China’s foreign ministry had yet to make a statement more than two hours after the launch was confirmed. China on Tuesday called on all parties to “exercise restraint” and avoid an escalation of tensions on the Korean peninsula ahead of the planned launch. The launch has been condemned by the US, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea and other western countries. The UN Security Council has called an emergency session for today. China seems at odds with itself about how to deal with the North Korea, which is offically known as the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. It wants peace and stability to help sustain its economy, but it has historic ties with the north. And above all, it seems,.China fears a collapse of the DPRK and the inevitable flood of refugees it would send into China.

$22 dollar an hour cleaners win the day

City Council’s vote to retain unionized office cleaners making $22 an hour helps set the stage for a final showdown over how your money is spent. It will happen at the 2014 municipal election. Council voted 12 to 29 yesterday to reject Mayor’s Ford’s proposal to contract out office cleaning. There are, apparently, millions of dollars at issue. A short-term contract with private cleaners has shown that the police service saved 47% over the previous cost of cleaning one station. The linked story describes the extensive planning by those in favour of union agreements to defeat the economizers. Remarkably, the meeting features one councillor, Aana Bailoa, weeping with nostalgia about her days as an immigrant cleaner at City Hall. Evidently it swayed many councillors.
Expect heavy traffic on Bayview this weekend

City officials are advising motorists to use Bayview Ave and other north south routes this weekend as the Don Valley Parkway is closed for its usual maintenance. And as usual this will make driving locally slower on Bayview and elsewhere in South Bayview as traffic leaks off onto east-west streets. CityTV
