Toronto Police have arrested a second man accused of making a death threat against Mayor Rob Ford. His office says that the mayor has been subject to many threats and police are taking precautions. Ford meanwhile has said that he won’t change his policies because of it. Over the first seven months of his tenure as mayor, Ford has been personally ridiculed and described in the media as someone who is trying to destroy Toronto., create a generation of children who are illiterate and much else. You don’t have to like Ford to understand that he was elected, not because he is graceful or refined, but because the city is broke. A lot of his supporters regret that the mayor isn’t more urbane. But can we stick to the critical issue?

Toronto Police Service report: A resident of Lumley Avenue in Bennington Heights reports that between 1045 hours and 1515 hours on August 4, 2011, entry was gained into the premises by forcing a door. Removed was a quantity of computer equipment.
All Nippon takes first Boeing 787

All you travellers in our readership will wish to know that the Boeing Dreamliner is finally going into service. Top, All Nippon Airways took possession of its first yesterday in Seattle. It has firm orders and options for 90 of the 787s. Air Canada has ordered 72 787s with options for 32 more. But don’t expect to see them before 2013. We look forward to getting aboard one soon. Work goes on inside the premises at 1592 South Bayview where a tea shop enterprise is readying to open. This shot is interesting since it shows for the first time since the shop was leased by the previous occupant, the Tea emporium, the length of the shop with the view to the rear.
Celebrated baseball writer Neil MacCarl is dead at age 83

The celebrated baseball writer and long-time resident of the South Bayview area Neil MacCarl has died. He succumbed to pneumonia in Toronto. MacCarl had been a resident of Moore Park for decades and was always ready to chat as he walked his dog along Hudson Drive. Frequently, he would find his way to the leafy cul de sac down near Moo0re Ave and visit the privately maintained memorial to his wife Mary, who was also in previous times a Star writer. During the off season, when he was in Toronto, Neil was often seen shopping on South Bayview. He is shown inset on a visit to Badali’s. As re information provided by the Star, there will be a visitation Friday, Aug. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Ave. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Humphrey chapel.
A month left to Pottery Road re-opening

With less than a month to go to the scheduled September 5, 2011 re-opening of Pottery Road, there still seems to be quite a bit of work left to do. At left, new bridge abutments will make passing safer and at right is the excavation going on beneath the Don Valley Parkway underpass. It looks like the road will be widened to four lanes . Of course a closed road is a joggers paradise (center).
