Jaye Robinson’s Celebration of Life is Thurs, May 30, 2024

Jaye (Janet Joy) Robinson
December 7, 1962 – May 16, 2024

Jaye passed away peacefully, surrounded by her cherished husband William Crossland “Billy,” her sons Jackson “Jake,” Samuel “Sam,” and William “Will,” daughter-in-law Brooke, and her faithful dog, Sadie.

In 2010, Jaye’s commitment to public service led to her election as Toronto City Councillor for Don Valley West, a role she cherished for 14 years. She proudly represented her community, which encompassed the neighbourhoods where her parents and grandparents once lived.

A passionate and creative supporter of family, friends and community, she spent her life serving the public, representing her community with fierce determination and unbending principle, and creating and implementing major events to bring people together, foster arts and culture, and drive economic growth.

Full obituary can be found at www.jayerobinson.ca.

A Celebration of Life will take place Thursday May 30 at 11AM, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M4T 1Z9. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (foundation.trca.ca/donations) in Jaye’s name and help keep Toronto green.

Jane’s Walk: Factories and Beyond – Leaside Business Park

Join Geoff Kettel and Mitch Bubulj on Friday May 3rd for Jane’s Walk: Factories and Beyond: The Evolution of Leaside Business Park

Urban planners today talk a lot about “complete community”. But one hundred years ago, they delivered. Leaside was designed by the noted Montreal landscape architect Frederick Gage Todd in 1912 as a complete community. And in those days, by “complete” they meant “homes AND jobs”. Todd’s plan for the Town of Leaside designated residential uses (west side) and industrial uses (east side), separated by Laird Drive. But since then the Leaside Business Park has been in constant change mode.

Date: Friday, May 3rd, 2024
Time: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm (Meet at 6:45 pm)
Walk Start: Leaside, Laird and McRae NW corner
Accesibility: Uneven terrain, Walk leader will use audio amplification, mainly walk on sidewalks but some parts have no sidewalks (walk on side of road).

The Bayview Pixies Earth Day seed giveaway, Apr 20 2024. /Bayview Pixies

On Saturday, April 20th, 2024, the Bayview Pixies hosted a seed giveaway to celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd). They were stationed outside of Epi Breads at Bayview & Millwood and gave out approximately 175 seed packs (that’s 4,000 potential plants). They plan on doing another seed giveaway during the Bayview-Leaside BIA AppleFest (Saturday, October 19, 2024). Looking forward to it!

Even more road works planned for Leaside and Davisville

Road Rehabilitation on Sutherland Dr (from Millwood Rd to Astor Ave)
Start Date: April 1, 2024 End Date: October 31, 2024
The City of Toronto is planning to rehabilitate Sutherland Drive from Millwood Road to Astor Avenue. Inspection of the road shows that it needs rehabilitation and sections of damaged curb and sidewalk need to be replaced to bring them to a state of good repair. Low amounts of asbestos have been detected in the asphalt roadway which will be removed and disposed by the contractor as per City protocols. Residents should expect minimal delays when traveling through the area. We appreciate your patience with the dust, noise, fencing and other inconveniences. This project is part of the Council-approved 2024 Capital Works Program to renew aging City roads and sidewalk for current and future needs.
