Finally, the political fresh air of Ben Sasse, a relatively new US Senator who can use words like catechetical correctly and without blushing. It means teaching by question and answer. We like the fresh air.
Bummer! Kookoo’s walks back new store in Leaside

Kookoo’s Kitchen, the eclectic-menu restaurant in Woodbridge is walking back its plans to open at 874 Eglinton Ave. E at Laird Drive. In June, the firm draped the location in its signage and proclaimed a new restaurant soon. But principals now tell The South Bayview Bulldog that Kookoo’s has issues with the property and are discussing them with the landlord. It doesn’t sound hopeful. In short, don’t count on seeing a Kookoo’s there any time soon.

Eden marijuana sales at 1625 Bayview, the dark space painted black, has added a white button to permit entry into the pot shop after the violent robbery on April 25. Meanwhile at the now vacant Rosie’s Kitchen at 1543 Bayview there is heavy-duty work going on inside. Just listen at the door. And across the street at 1580 Bayview the owners of Mayrik, the new Eastern Mediterranean restaurant, say they will open for business on Tuesday, July 25. Bayview Pixies Debora Kuchme and JoAnn Davis were busy with planting Monday. Thank you ladies for your public-spirited and unpaid labour on behalf of the community. And finally, COBS will close for renovation from Tuesday, July 4 over to Friday, July 7.
Tractor trailer rolls over on Highway 427 near Highway 401

A tractor trailer truck carrying wooden skids rolled over on Highway 427 Monday sending the driver to hospital with serious injuries. This occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway near Highway 401. Southbound and northbound off-ramps to Highway 401 westbound were closed by the accident. Truck is shown in photos tweeted by Micheal Donly to have come off a curved ramp. Sometimes such curves cause a load to shift making the truck unstable.
SEA-DOO DEATH IN HAMILTON
A man is dead after falling out of a Sea-Doo jet boat Lake Ontario near the Burlington Life Bridge Sunday. Hamilton police say the 51-year-old man was thrown from the boat when it made a sharp turn. The boat carried another man and two children. Police said the children and other man on the boat were rescued and did not suffer injuries.

And the Leafs have signed 37-year-old Patrick Marleau to a three-year deal. Marleau has spent his entire NHL career with the San Jose Sharks, drafted second overall by the club 20 years ago. The little known T-Rex vehicle made by Campagna Motors of Montreal was parked on Bayview Sunday outside McSorley’s. It made many people look twice. The website says the concept was born in 1988 and production began in the mid 90s. Not sure that they are assembled in Montreal however. They must be registered as a car in six provinces including Ontario and as a bike in Alberta and New Brunswick. Take a look.
Winnipeggers form “living maple leaf” at Portage and Main

A Winnipeg business group, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, organized a huge public participation project Canada Day to create a living maple leaf at the famous intersection of Portage Ave. and Main St. It estimates as many as 3,600 people participated. The details of just how they were dressed to create the impression are not clear but from the time-lapse video, it was clearly a big job to marshal and move everyone into position.

Tower fireworks enthrall thousands, slow Gardiner traffic

Thousands watched from under the CN Tower and further afield, as well as through windshields on the Gardiner, taking in the enchanting fireworks display Saturday night marking Canada’s 150th anniversary. Fireworks from the tower almost always cause traffic to slow and police were issuing warnings through the evening.
