Ohio man broadcasts fatal shooting of man via Facebook

Cleveland police are searching for a man who they say broadcast a killing on Facebook Live on Sunday. The person is Steve Stephens, a member of “the assertive community treatment team” at Beech Brook, a mental health organization in northeast Ohio. He is said to have driven up to an elderly man and shot him while broadcasting his moves and intent to kill as he went along. Stephens is described as 6-foot-1, 244 pounds and bald with a full beard. He is wearing a dark blue and gray- or black-striped polo shirt and believed to be driving a white- or cream-colored vehicle, according to police.

 

Turkey votes narrowly in favour of more power for Erdogan

The Turkish referendum on extending broad new powers to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has produced evidence a divided nation. But, with much of the vote in, it appears the new constitution will be approved. According to results carried Sunday by the state-run Anadolu news agency, the “yes” vote had about 51.3 per cent compared to 48.7 per cent for the “no” vote with nearly 99 per cent of the vote counted. Man sought for fire at Weston area church Sunday mornng

Police have released security camera images of a man sought in connection with a fire Sunday morning at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church at 49 George Street in Weston in the former Borough of York.  He is identified Marc Porlier, 43, of no fixed address, who known to frequent both the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue, and Weston Road and Jane Street areas. Porlier has a history with police, Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu told CBC Toronto. If seen, members of the public are asked not to approach him. Apparently a flammable device was thrown through a window of the church. Please call police if you know this person.

The former location of many years in the north block of Bayview Ave. is now under renovation. Teen killer Robert Dezwaan recaptured by Mounties in BC

Police and public are breathing a little easier after the rapid recapture of a convict serving a life sentence for strangling a teenage girl to death 16 years ago.  Robert Raymond Dezwaan escaped yesterday from the minimum security unit at a prison in Mission, B.C. Correctional Service Canada said RCMP from the nearby Agassiz detachment apprehended Dezwaan at around 11:15 a.m. PT Saturday morning.

CGS children particpate in Toronto Science Fair at UofT

On Saturday, April 1, the winners the annual CGS Science Fair (open to SK-Grade 3 students) were invited to showcase their projects at the Toronto Science Fair at the U of T campus in Scarborough. All of the students gladly accepted and were present to discuss their findings and ideas with a new group of interested judges, parents and students from schools all over the city. It was a very exciting day as the kids also participated in a Scientists at School program when the other groups were presenting their projects to one another. Rogers deal to dispose of Joe Natale’s Telus non-compete

At the time, Joe Natale’s departure from Telus was represented as a simple desire on his part to keep his family in Toronto even as his employer wanted him to move to Vancouver. That was August, 2015 and it was more than a year later in October 2016 that it was announced that Natale would become the new president of Rogers. The Toronto multi-divisional firm that Ted built had abruptly parted with Guy Laurence after less than three years. But Natale couldn’t take the job right away because he had a two-year non-compete settlement from Telus. Two years is a heck of a long time. That’s what Rogers thought too and now it has been revealed that it has worked out a deal with Telus for Natale to take over as boss at Rogers right away. Laurence out abruptly at Rogers to make way for Joe Natale.

The giraffe foal has been born about 9.55 a.m. Saturday, April 15 and can be seen in this live picture. These are scenes from Animal Adventure Park in Harpursvile, New York where the pregnant giraffe has been waiting for many weeks to deliver.
