Parents and guardians of Bessborough Elementary and Middle School have received a letter from the principal of the school dated Friday reporting an incident in which two pupils reported being approached by men in a truck offering them candy. The kids ran back to school immediately and told school officials. The incident occurred on Hanna Rd at about 3.30 p.m. Thursday.

The men, numbering four, were said to be in a black van with tinted windows. They are described as black with beards. The driver is said to have been wearing a “religious hat”.

Pope may visit Canada
Pope Francis has agreed to visit Canada to help ongoing efforts at reconciliation with Indigenous peoples following revelations of the church’s role in the attempts to integrate native children, the Vatican said on Wednesday. In a brief statement, the Holy See’s press office said that the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has invited the pope to make an apostolic journey to Canada “also in the context of the long-standing pastoral process of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.”
RCI matriarch says son supplied inaccurate information
Stunning details have emerged from a court petition filed by Edward Rogers at the BC Supreme Court. It reveals that the Rogers Communications Inc. board voted to accept CEO Joe Natale’s retirement but the decision was reversed in another board meeting just a few days later when Edward wasn’t there. That disclosure has prompted Edward’s mother, Loretta Rogers, 82, to declare that the reason for the reversal was because she felt her son supplied her with inaccurate information about Natale’s performance as CEO.

The lawyer for Rogers board member Melinda Rogers-Hixon says he is confident a “strong judge” at the BC Supreme Court will “see through” the plan of Edward Rogers, Melinda’s brother, to appoint a new board for the firm “with the strike of a pen”. Walied Soliman of Norton, Rose, Fulbright LLP, is quoted by Canadian Press Monday as follows: “My response to that is we have shareholder meetings for a reason. If at any time, somebody had the majority of votes in connection with a company and were able to just sign a piece of paper and replace the independent directors then we would never have shareholder meetings.” There’s no indication so far just when the matter might be referred to the court or how quickly it might act.

A marine rescue has been launched Monday afternoon after a report that a windsurfer was seen trying to climb onto a buoy off Colonel Sam Smith Park in New Toronto. The outcome of all this remains in the hands of fate, it seems.
