Davenport Garden Centre shuttered their Bayview location

Davenport Garden Centre have been operating their flower business at 1466 Bayview Avenue since 2014, and this month they closed their doors for good. You can still visit them at their namesake location at 368 Davenport Road, or place your order online.

This little corner has been home to beautiful blooms for decades, if you remember, Garden Court Nursery used to operate in this location.

The property encompassing 1466 Bayview and 1500 Bayview (Valumart) is expected to be redeveloped with a brand new mixed use 8 storey building in the future.

SERRA asks City to lower, soften plan for ValuMart location

SERRA, the South Eglinton Ratepayers and Residents Association, has sent mail to the North York Community Council objecting to the proposed redevelopment of the ValuMart site at Bayview and Davisville Aves. The concerns were cited and refined as a result of a recent meeting with residents. In the letter, SERRA president Andy Gort says the association finds that plans for the site represent an overdevelopment.

Too tall, no transition

SERRA says the proposed building at 1466-1500 Bayview is too tall at nine storeys and lacks setback and transitioning to the west. It also questions the design in the context of the historic Garden Court site across the street. The letter also says SERRA is concerned about excessive noise of commercial vehicles in a proposed laneway behind the site and traffic congestion at the Davisville Ave/Bayview Ave intersection.

SERRA wants professional offices above ground floor

“We also have questions about the retail uses intended for this site. The grocery store is an important part of the community which should be encouraged to return (or another grocer to fulfill the community need).” “Lastly, we encourage additional commercial/institutional use of the building above the first floor such as for medical offices, etc. SERRA would welcome an opportunity together with other stakeholders to work with the developer to create a mutually satisfactory, community-appropriate application for this site.” SERRA

Meeting May 13 on bid to redevelop Bayview ValuMart site

A community consultation meeting will be held May 13 on the bid by Medallion Developments to build a nine-storey structure at 1500 Bayview Avenue, the present site of the ValuMart store and Davenport Nurseries seasonal sales centre.

Mar 1 meeting on plan to replace ValuMart, Garden Centre

The redevelopment of the ValuMart grocery store, parking lot and Davenport Garden Centre at the corner of Bayview and Davisville Aves will be on the agenda of the North York Community Council on March 1. Wilmar Kortleever has posted information indicating that a preliminary report will be presented on the proposed rezoning required for this development. The street address is 1466 to 1500 Bayview. Details have been posted on the SERRA website as well.

Firm will apply to build mid-rise project on Valu Mart site

Medallion Developments has issued a release saying that it plans to apply next month for a permit to build what appears to be a combination housing and commercial development on the northwest corner of Davisville and Bayview Aves. That’s the present site of Valu Mart and the Davenport Garden Centre. Medallion says the development will introduce “a new housing type to the neighbourhood. The proposed building will include rental units, which opens up possibilities for young people and families to move into this neighbourhood; and options for long-time residents to downsize and age in place.” Release
