Concerned South Bayview resident, Elliot Fine, reminds us to clear our snow. He wrote a letter to our Councillor Matlow and The Bulldog on January 3rd:
My wife was out walking 2 days ago on Soudan Avenue when she came across a senior who had slipped and fallen on a sidewalk that was uncleared. This was on the north side between #420 and #440 Soudan. Fortunately several people were able to help this lady get on her feet and home. I don’t know if she ended up in hospital but I am positive she sustained some sort of injury. In this area there were several houses with uncleared snow and ice. This scenario is all too common and as we both approach our 7th decade it is a real worry.I have slipped many times, broken my ankle once on ice many years ago and have slipped more times than I can remember. Up to now nothing super serious has happened.
Seniors and people with physical disabilities can apply to the City for a free snow removal service. The application form can be found here. Toronto.ca reminds us that it is not only dangerous, but can also be costly if you don’t clear your sidewalks. “Failure to do so could result in a fine of $100.00 plus $25.00 surcharge, total $125.00 as per Municipal Code Chapter 719.” Be nice, clear your ice.
