CGS: Toonie Free Dress Fundraising Success!

An update from Children’s Garden School, by Sarah McGowan

We are so proud of you guessed it, YOU! Our CGS school community has outdone themselves again this year with their continuous support in our school fundraising programs. For those of you who are new to CGS, you will be pleased to know that we host Free Dress Days along with a variety of other fundraisers for donations throughout the school year hosted by our student body, Principal’s Club, PA, and families of the CGS community. This initiative comes from our strong belief in giving back to not just our community and city, but to any and all organizations that are in need of a little extra help internationally.

Every year CGS collects toonie donations from our Free Dress Days to be allocated to a specific charity or organization where the funds can be put to use in response right away to their goal and mandate. This year our principal Marie has chosen to allocate these donations collected to the international organizations, Right to Play and Plan International Canada. Together these two charities have gained the benefits of us having Toonie Free Dress at CGS all school year long.

Right to Play Indigenous Youth is a program organized by Right to Play, an international organization that uses the power of play to promote education, health, and social development in disadvantaged communities across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Canada. The program aims to empower Indigenous youth by providing them with opportunities for play, sports, and recreational activities during the summer months.

Right to Play Indigenous Youth program aims to create lasting positive impacts on the lives of Indigenous youth, fostering their personal development, and empowering them to become leaders within their communities. By providing access to play and sports, the program helps to address social challenges faced by Indigenous communities and promote the rights and well-being of Indigenous youth.

Plan International Canada is a non-profit organization that works towards advancing children’s rights and equality, especially for girls who are oppressed, around the world. The organization focuses on addressing issues such as poverty, gender inequality, and lack of access to education and healthcare. Plan International Canada operates through various programs and initiatives aimed at empowering communities and advocating for policy changes to create lasting impact.

Plan International Canada is dedicated to creating a more equitable and just world for children, with a particular focus on promoting gender equality and empowering young girls. Through their various initiatives, they strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of children and communities around the globe.

Collectively through our CGS school and community donations, we have raised $1,661! An outstanding achievement we can all be proud of all from a fun and simple way to fundraise. We donated $661 to the Right to Play Organization after our first term of the 2022 school year. At the end of the 2023 school year we donated the remaining donations of $1100 to Plan International Canada. The best part is, as we sent in this donation before June 30th, the government of Canada matched our Plan International Canada Donation!

If anyone is looking to continue to support either of these organizations, you can visit their websites here to do so: Right To Play or Plan International Canada.

We are so incredibly proud and honoured our CGS community stands strong together in the belief in giving back. Thank you so much for your generous support and donations to all our fundraisers throughout this school year.
