Bus bypass lanes plan for Don Valley Pkwy

A plan to expand so-called bus by-pass lanes along the Don Valley Parkway is moving ahead. The idea expands on a pilot project of by-pass lanes already in use. The new proposed lanes extend from approximately St. Dennis Drive to Pottery Road. The lanes would permit buses to pass slow traffic. It is a project proposed by GO Transit. The expanded lanes have now passed Environmental Assessment. The project is comprised of 4.1 kilometres of new bus by-pass lanes in two separate sections of the DVP between St. Dennis Drive and Pottery Road. Flood cleanup Friday at Royal Bank Plaza

Union Station no stranger to flooding

Union Station has been flooded by backed up sewers which were unable to handle the marathon rainfall we’re getting. Fire officials interviewed on television were laconic about it all. They’ve seen it many times as they observed that “TTC pumps were not able to keep up with the rain.”  And memory certainly tells us that the station has been flooded frequently, sometimes more than once a year. The inset picture is from October 2011. Other video on YouTube shows rain water tumbling down the steps and escalators like a decorative waterfall. The lower level of the station is just that — low. It is always in danger of flooding.

Flooding at Southvale Dr and Astor Ave

The City is a mess this afternoon as heavy rain causes local  flooding both serious and simply annoying. This is the scene at Southvale Drive and Astor Avenue where a particularly large pond has sprung up. It’s typical of many streets throughout South Bayview. Much more serious however is the flooding at Union Station and elsewhere. The flooding has shut down a lot of electric transit. The Yonge-University subway is non-operational between Bloor and Osgoode stations. Into the mix, it appears the Union Station flooding has been caused by a backed up sewer sending sewage into the station. The stench is said to be terrible,.
