Residents of Leaside, mark your calendars – Leaside Traffic meetings are scheduled for:
BACKGROUND
This was the presentation was made by the LPOA’s traffic consultant (Paradigm Transportation Consultants) at the LPOA Annual General Meeting on November 22, 2016. “Gateway to Leaside” seen as one way to calm traffic
Everyone appreciates the hard work done by the volunteer group known as the Bayview Leaside BIA Pixies. The Leaside Garden Society took the time to present them with an award saying so. The Certificate of Appreciation reads, “In grateful recognition of their tireless efforts to beautify Bayview Avenue in Leaside”.
Concerned South Bayview resident, Elliot Fine, reminds us to clear our snow. He wrote a letter to our Councillor Matlow and The Bulldog on January 3rd:
My wife was out walking 2 days ago on Soudan Avenue when she came across a senior who had slipped and fallen on a sidewalk that was uncleared. This was on the north side between #420 and #440 Soudan. Fortunately several people were able to help this lady get on her feet and home. I don’t know if she ended up in hospital but I am positive she sustained some sort of injury. In this area there were several houses with uncleared snow and ice. This scenario is all too common and as we both approach our 7th decade it is a real worry.I have slipped many times, broken my ankle once on ice many years ago and have slipped more times than I can remember. Up to now nothing super serious has happened.
Seniors and people with physical disabilities can apply to the City for a free snow removal service. The application form can be found here. Toronto.ca reminds us that it is not only dangerous, but can also be costly if you don’t clear your sidewalks. “Failure to do so could result in a fine of $100.00 plus $25.00 surcharge, total $125.00 as per Municipal Code Chapter 719.” Be nice, clear your ice.

UPDATE – 01/07/2016
Hi everyone,
We would like to thank each and every one of you for your help and support during this difficult and frustrating search.
We have been advised by the professionals helping us with the search that, for now, we should not involve too many in the search for fear that Sike may be spooked and relocate out of the area that he has been seen in. We feel terrible that we have not been able to keep you more updated and involved, and will post relevant updates as we have them (as of now, there are none). We continue to monitor a number of live traps that have been set, and are currently exploring other options that we feel may bring him home safely. We are exhausted and frustrated, but are not going to give up until Sike is safe – it breaks our hearts to think of how confused and scared he must be.
For now, continuing to distribute posters, keeping your eyes open as you go about your daily routine, and informing us of any possible sightings is the best way to help! Keeping Sike in your thoughts and sending positive energy means more than you could possibly know right now.
Thank you. ❤️❤️.
* Important – if you see Sike, please do not call out for him or attempt to chase him, as this will cause him to run. Instead, please quietly and calmly call us at 416-669-5022. At this point, a confirmed sighting to ensure that he remains in this area would be an enormous help.

Chris Lexovsky’s mom, Kimberley is very proud of her son. The South Bayview family is waiting eagerly for Chris to compete on the Food Network’s Chopped Canada Teen edition this coming season. His episode will be aired on February 11, 2017 at 9pm ET. She has told The Bulldog that it will be a very cool experience for a boy of his age! We agree. Corus Entertainment describes the show this way: “Twenty of Canada’s best teen cooks battle it out in the Chopped Canada kitchen for a chance to win $10,000. Just like their adult counterparts, four young cooks face the clock – and each other – before a rotating panel of expert judges in each episode. Competitors between the ages of 14-17 from across Canada put their skill and ingenuity to the test in an attempt to turn baskets of mystery ingredients into an extraordinary three-course meal within a limited amount of time. Course by course, the judges decide which teen cooks will be “chopped” from the competition until only one remains. The last competitor standing will collect the cash and win the title of Chopped Canada Teen champion. Chopped Canada Teen airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning January 14.”
Firefighters turned out in force to extinguish a blaze at the Cardiff co-operative apartments building at 1460 Bayview Ave. on the southwest corner with Davisville Ave. Wednesday afternoon. There was concern that the single unit fire might spread to the rest of the building and a second alarm was rung. But in the end, the fire damage was confined to a second floor unit (smoke damage may be another thing). A resident on the first floor told The Bulldog that no one had been hurt. She did not know the cause but speculated that it was something like a pan or pot left on a stove. This is among the most common causes of house fires.
The Bayview-Leaside BIA Pixies have been braving the cold installing solar lights on the trees of South Bayview. Today Deborah Kuchme and Helen Godfrey hope to light up the final few trees. It’s been a tough slog, thank you for your hard work ladies! You’re making Bayview sparkle!
A band of snow is travelling from east to west across the GTA, leaving a healthy dumping of snow in its path. In a matter of minutes we watched as a light dusting of snow turned into a winter mess. Here in South Bayview, the Leaside Hockey Association has tweeted that all NYHL and GTHL games tonight have been cancelled or postponed. Cars are crawling along, if they’re lucky, as this afternoon’s rush hour begins. Plan your routes and evening activities accordingly. If you’d like to check on the location and progress of the City’s plows and salt trucks, we refer you to PlowTO, our favourite interactive map. #snowTO
