Woman pedestrian, 63, fatally struck at Eglinton and Hanna
by •
A 63-year-old woman was killed on Eglinton Ave. East at Hanna Road Thursday evening when she was struck by a car. The accident scene was a short distance east of Hanna Road where a black car facing eastbound was later stopped in the eastbound lane as police did reconstruction. Traffic was being diverted along Sutherland, Parklea and Hanna with Eglinton being re-opened overnight. There was no LRT construction restriction at that point. Police said Thursday was one of the most dangerous mornings in months for pedestrians. Ten people were hit by drivers before noon. Seven were hit in one hour alone.
Painting the town orange? When Halloween goes wrong
by •
Reporting from South Bayview’s Starbucks yesterday, Angela Lam, of Stainton Murray & Lam at 1552 Bayview Avenue thought our readers would be interested to know why it appears that someone has painted the town… um, orange. Literally. A can of neon orange spray paint had been dropped on Bayview Avenue and when it got run over, it exploded neon spray paint all over the parked cars in front of Starbucks. A black Ford Explorer SUV got the brunt of it, and was decorated appropriately for Halloween. Angela did not get to see the reaction when they returned to their Jackson Pollack inspired new paint job, but we reckon they were not pleased.
Bayview and Eglinton traffic “horrible” Thursday morning
by •

One driver tweeted this picture and added there were no police, no TTC nor construction employees to make sure this type of crazy pile up was avoided.
Traffic is a complete mess with construction. No pain, no gain, right? We dream of the day when the Eglinton LRT is operational.

TPFFA’s Care Enough to Wear Pink presents “Louise”
by •
Toronto Fire Fighters have officially kicked off their Care Enough to Wear Pink campaign for the month of October. Their pink fire truck, named “Louise” garnered much attention at her first public appearances, a big hit with both children and adults. Many photos have been taken so far and they ask that you tweet or post those photos of yourself with Louise on Twitter or Facebook, using the hashtag #TPFFApink. On October 4th, Louise appeared on Breakfast Television then she then headed north to the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to visit staff and patients for the day. In 2011, Toronto Fire Fighters pledged to raise $100,000 for the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre. To date, the TPFFA have raised $77,300 of their $100,000 pledge. Please support them to ensure that they fulfil that pledge by the end of October this year.
To support our campaign and help us reach our $100,000 pledge, you have a few options:
Option #1: Attend an event that we are hosting – please see the ever evolving event listing below, which will be updated on a regular basis. You can receive one of our very popular pink baseball caps with a donation of $20.00 or one of our pink ribbon pins for a $5.00 donation. Of course, we will also accept any donation that you are willing to make to the campaign.
Option #2: Pink baseball caps and pink ribbon pins can be purchased from two branch locations of our Comtech Fire Credit Union, located at either 1997 Avenue Road or 637 King Street W.
Option #3: Pick your pink baseball cap up from the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association office, located at 39 Commissioners Street.

Toronto’s new cruiser revealed, in fashion forward grey
by •
Toronto Police will progressively change the colour of police cruisers to grey apparently because they are easier to keep clean and have a higher re-sale value. It is truly a sign of these cost-conscious times when the colour of police cars has more to do with resale value of the vehicle than the visibility of the uniformed patrol. Chris Nielsen, of Fleet Management, insists the patrol cars will maintain high visibility, although it seems doubtful they will be as obvious as the present white cars with blue and red trim. In the 70s and 80s, Metropolitan Toronto Police cars were chrome yellow, an expensive but dramatically visible statement. Chrome yellow was a costly and specialized process however and was finally abandoned for white cars. The new grey Ford Interceptors are now being rolled on city streets as vehicles are replaced. Each scout car has a lifespan of about 4.5 years, so it will take about four years to change the look of all cars so that there is no additional cost to the Service. About 80 cars are slated to be replaced this year. Toronto Police Service News Release

Filming notice for Best Buy ad on Bessborough Drive
by •
Some residents on Bessborough Drive in South Leaside have received notice that there will be a Best Buy commercial being shot on Thursday, September 22nd, 2016, between the hours of 7am – 11pm. Surprisingly, none of the dozen production vehicles will be parked on Bessborough Drive, instead they will be seen on the south side of Rolland Road (between Bessborough and Hanna), on the North side of St. Cuthbert’s Road (between Bayview and Bessborough) and on the west side of Berney Crescent (150 meters from the corner). Circle Productions has noted that a donation of $1000 is being made to the Trace Manes Playground Rejuvenation Project as a thank you for having their production in our neighbourhood. Very nice indeed.
