Pawsitively a fun fair at Laird and Parkhurst

Jennifer Ego of Pawsitively Pets sends along these great pictures of the multi-service pet care and training firm’s party on Laird Drive at Parkhurst Blvd. The little cul-de-sac of Parkhurst which contains Van Ness Flowers and a few other businesses was closed to accommodate the event. Young lady at top left has a Salamander painted on her face. So chic. Next we see a party-goer eyeing an approaching turtle and council candidate Jon Burnside serves cotton candy with a parrot on his shoulder. Aye matie! Below, Polly Wanna Hand Perch? Sleep Country space at 1591 Bayview is for lease

The Sleep Country location at 1591 Bayview Ave and the adjoining premises at 1589 Bayview which housed the Flight Centre, are both for lease with large signs in the window. At Sleep Country, the story seems to be that the business might be there for another six months. The large space was once the TD Bank branch before the Canada Trust TD was built at Millwood Rd. and Bayview. Later it housed the Trend Shoppe.
Sittler, Bower: All-time heroes on Legends Row

Many will call them the history of Toronto, never mind the Maple Leafs. Two fine gentlemen, Darryl Sittler and Johnny Bower, join the late Ted (Teeder) Kennedy on Legends Row. Bower was chipper as always at today’s event even as he nears the age of 90 in November.

At a ceremony Saturday morning the Leafs announced that Darryl Sittler will be honoured with a statue in his likeness added to the outdoor hall of fame known as Legenda Row. at Air Canada Centre. Sittler is the second such legends added. Several tweets suggests that the historic goalkeeping figure Johnny Bower will be the third. The Sittler statue will join that of Ted (Teeder) Kennedy, the first Leaf announced for this honour some weeks ago. Twitter

Girl in car-bike accident on McCowan Road

A 7-year-old girl has been flown by EMS chopper to Sunnybrook Hospital after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Marhkam around 4:55 p.m. today (Friday, September 5, 2014) near McCowan Road and Coleraine Avenue. Ornge airlifted the girl to hospital. Police say the collision reconstruction team will be investigating. The child is said to have life threatening injuries.
Ford subpoenaed to testify at Alexander Lisi trial

Way back last year when Mayor Ford told police he would not be having a one-on-one with Det Sgt Gary Giroux about the Alexander Lisi case, Detective Giroux said quietly: “I’m going to keep asking.” Now we know it will not be Detective Giroux doing the asking, it will be the Crown Attorney. That’s because the other night (Tuesday, August 26, 2014) Detective Giroux served the mayor with a subpoena to testify at the coming trial of his friend Alexander Lisi, Mr. Ford’s lawyer confirmed that Giroux gave the mayor the subpoena at Ford’s mother’s home about 9 p.m. The mills grind on.

You have to wonder if Bill Murray thinks of Ghostbusters (1984) as his own real-life Ground Hog Day (1994). That’s because, even on this TIFF-inspired Bill Murray Day, it is hard to think of Mr. Murray without thinking first of the Columbia Pictures lunacy written by Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis. Body found in Rosedale Valley near bike, helmet

Police have found a body in the Rosedale Valley near the spot where an abandoned bicycle and helmet were located. Detectives say the scene is part of a search effort for a missing person but they have not confirmed it is Catherine Currie, 51, a woman missing since mid-August.
