Canadian Press says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that there are no easy answers to the dispute over a British Columbia pipeline project that has paralyzed the national rail system. Indigenous protesters Friday continued their illegal blockade of the rails across Canada. Speaking in Munich, Mr. Trudeau recalled centuries of history during which “we have failed our Indigenous peoples.” He said all parties must move towards reconciliation. There was apparently no reference to when the government might act to restore freight and passenger service or the court decisions which have approved the pipeline. CTV
York Region Police have released a photo of a car with its windshield fully-covered by snow. It was stopped in Richmond Hill Friday morning and the driver ticketed and fined $85. That may seem cheap when the potential for a disaster is fully considered. The stop was made at Bantry and Bayview Ave. about 9:30 a.m.
Canada is heading into the weekend with its rail system paralyzed because of pipeline protesters on the rails. Oh, Canada. Then, Bombardier struggles to hang on, bummed out by incompetence and economics. Below that, there’s hesitant talk of a vaccine for the coronavirus, now called COVID-19. Finally, two UK octagenarians are enjoying an extensive following on Instagram.
UP Express from Union Station to Pearson International Airport is shut down Friday because of a broken signal. The transit service says GO shuttle buses will be available to those who are travelling to and from downtown to the airport. But there is no stop at Weston Rd. so uptown passengers must make other arrangements.
A photo posted to Facebook by Susan Campbell is a reminder of longer days to come. It was taken Monday at Queen St. East and Boulton Ave. The sun shimmers over downtown towers a minute or two away from the 5.40 p.m. sundown.
Well-toned and hunky members of the St. Catharines Fire Combat Team have been told to put their shirts back on or risk losing support for their annual charity calendar. Municipal officials say firefighters have to cover up or take off their uniforms because the City can’t support the publication of photos of its employees in states of undress. The deputy chief administrative officer insists the no shirts, no City services directive isn’t about discouraging charity but ensuring “respect and dignity in the workplace.” Niagara This week
StubHub Canada Ltd. and StubHub Inc. will pay a $1.3 million penalty for making misleading pricing claims and will ensure costs for Canadian events it sells tickets to are posted with their mandatory fees. The penalty is part of an agreement the entertainment and sport ticket reseller made through the Competition Tribunal after the Competition Bureau discovered StubHub advertised tickets at “unattainable” prices on its websites, mobile apps and in promotional emails to Canadians.
Prices higher than stated
The Bureau says its investigation found that StubHub was charging mandatory fees above the price advertised and was not selling tickets for the cost it had promoted. The Bureau says consumers couldn’t see the full cost of their ticket unless they clicked or tapped to turn on pricing option filters or waited until later in the purchasing process. Some consumers who filtered results to see tickets that were inclusive of fees were still asked to pay more than the prices they were originally shown — Canadian Press
