Contractors installing trees and benches on City property next to Wild Wing at Millwood Rd. and Bayview Ave. re-opened the Milwood sidewalk. The work is part of the beautification project of the Bayview Leaside BIA.

A number of shoppers have been injured in the rush to catch and break prize-filled balloon at a Sydney shopping centre. Hundreds of shoppers tried to grab the balloons during a marathon Christmas shopping event. There were children among those injured in the crush and several were sent to hospital.

Rev. Dr. John Joseph Mastandrea presided at an event called Christmas at the Manor Sunday afternoon. It drew a large crowd to Manor Road United Church at 240 Manor Rd. The service featured costumed characters and live creatures reminiscent of the story of Christ’s birth in Bethlehem.

Arborists and simple tree lovers alike may wonder how the lush trees shown sprouting out of every balcony of a proposed complex on Davenport Rd (at Bedford Rd) will grow adequate root systems. Plans for the curious development proposed for 306 through 326 Davenport Rd are described at Urban Toronto. It is said that in order to properly install, maintain and preserve the trees, they’d be chosen from a specific list of species that are capable of surviving in such a setting. They’d then be kept in planters that are both waterproof and thermally insulated.

Two $1 million 649 prizes in Ontario among five in Canada

No winning ticket was sold for the $7 million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw.
