Former jewellery store will come back to life as a restaurant
by •
The small storefront at 1551 Bayview Ave. is being given a new face for life as a restaurant. It’s believed the new business will specialize in pasta dishes. This is the long-time location of Unique Jewellery plus the pop-up shop that appeared in this location last summer. Here we see the heavy new window being installed Saturday. Thanks to Andrew Redlich for the tip.

by •
Upper left in this South Bayview summary is Barton Wong, brainy graduate of Leaside High School who was a two-day champion on Jeopardy this week. Among other things, Barton knew that Albany was the US state capital whose last two letters were also the abbreviation for the state in which it’s located (NY). Wow. Upper right, the Girls of Summer at the East York Ladies Softball Association want you. Get in there. Centre left we see charming Skylar who needs a home. Find out about her at Leaside Community Then below, a reminder to enjoy some family fun Sunday at Patrick Rocca’s March Break free skate at Leaside Arena. And Bonnie Byford Real Estate reminds you that it is just as easy to give blood (April 4 at Northlea School) as it is to eat a cookie.

The Bloor Street Viaduct portion of the Line 2 subway and the Don Valley Parkway were closed Friday over the rush hour by what police call a medical emergency. It appears, without confirmation, that a person was in danger of falling. At about 7 p.m., police reported the crisis had been been successfully resolved with no injuries, including first responders. “We are very pleased to say the medical situation on the Prince Edward Viaduct has been successfully resolved with no injuries to anyone involved, including First Responders,” police said on Twitter around 7 p.m. “To all who were affected by this extended closure, we would like to thank you all very much for your patience and understanding.” The Don Valley Parkway was closed in both directions from the Gardiner Expressway to Bayview/Bloor, just before 5 p.m. The closure lasted more than two hours. Subway service between Broadview and St. George stations was also impacted during the closure. Regular service resumed around 7 p.m.
