A man in his 50s is dead after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in a hit-and-run at Bellamy Rd and Brimorton Dr at around 9 p.m. Friday. Police said the driver of the vehicle fled.

TEEN DROWNS IN LAKE RESCUE TRY

A boy of 16 has drowned as he tried to help a woman and her son who were shouting for help in the water at Woodbine Beach Friday. Police said a number of people jumped into the water as the woman called for help. As many as five patients had to be rescued from the lake in the incident. Three people, including the young boy who died, were taken to hospital from the scene, Toronto paramedics said. There has been no word on the condition of the other victims but paramedics said they are also in their teens.

Police are after Jesse Jack Breese, 21, for bank robbery committed with three other men on May 24 near Warden Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East  Three perpetrators entered the bank disguised with masks, sunglasses and hooded sweatshirts  One fired a shot. Customers were forced to the floor.They took money and fled. Breese is 6’3″ with a slim build and short dark hair. He occasionally wears prescription glasses. He is known to frequent both Barrie and Toronto. At Woodbine Beach, a search was underway Friday for a swimmer who is lost. A man and woman were rescued by marine officers. Finally, at right, Jason Michell, 46, is wanted for credit card theft and the illegal use of such cards. He is described as 5’9″, 160 pounds, balding with grey/brown hair and brown eyes.

Streetcar track replacement at the intersection of Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East to will be finished and the roads reopened at 7 a.m. Sunday (August 12). This is four weeks ahead of schedule. The 504 King, 505 Dundas and 506 Carlton replacement bus service will return to regular routing through the intersection. Streetcars return to the 504 King and 506 Carlton routes on September 2.

This intersection is cleared following a five-car accident. Injuries were minor.

The City has issued road closure notices for the Taste of the Danforth and the Feast of St. Lawrence.

•  Danforth Avenue from Broadview Avenue to Jones Avenue will be closed in both directions from Friday, August 10 at 10 a.m. to Monday, August 13 at 4 a.m.
•  Pape Avenue from Lipton Avenue to Hazelwood Avenue will be closed in both directions from Friday, August 10 at 6 p.m. to Monday, August 13 at 4 a.m.
•  Logan Avenue from Danforth Avenue to the south side of the laneway north of Danforth Avenue will be closed in both directions from Thursday, August 9 at 3 p.m. to Monday, August 13 at 4 a.m.

Consolidate on west side of Laird Drive between Commercial and Industrial

Gyro Mazda of Laird Drive will consolidate all sales and service on the east of the street on property recently purchased from DEL Equipment Limited at Laird and Commercial Dr. The new facility will adjoin the Gyro Hyundai dealership which is located at Laird and Industrial St.  Partners Paul Kmet, JP Kovac and Jim Krigos made the announcement in a statement Thursday. The new Gyro Mazda facility will offer immediate drive-through with two lanes and 13 service bays, a large new vehicle showroom and many customer lounge areas. The partners say they are excited about the new phase and thank community members for on-going support. Mazda has been in business on Laird Drive for 40 years. It is of interest that the proposed zoning on the west side of the street, which now houses the original Gyro Mazda dealership, is for midrise development, buildings that might rise from four to 11 storeys. This section stretches from north of Stickney Ave. south to a line on the west side nearly to the Laird-Esandar Dr intersection.

Ever-present water bottle

A Twitter video Thursday morning complains about refuse littering R.V. Burgess Park on Thorncliffe Park Dr. It says “a supervisor” was going to check this litter within a week. “Obviously nothing gets done around here,” the tweet says. It is messy but not beyond an easy fix perhaps. Probably there are bins but maybe not. Signs reminding people to use them might be helpful. As on Bayview Ave. each Spring, a contingent of citizen volunteers is able to clean up this type of thing jiffy quick. In April, many parks in East York, including Burgess, were cleaned by volunteers. Toronto.com
