Then there’s 6 foot 4″ Alex Bishop, 24, recruited from the University of Toronto to play goal for the Maple Leafs. At right, stuntman Jonathon Goodwin has been badly hurt during taping of the TV spinoff America’s Got Talent: Extreme. Word is he was squeezed between two cars. The program has been temporarily put on hold.

TPS says west end burlgar mainly intent on causing damage

Toronto police have gathered a clear gallery of a man who they claim commits break and enters in order to cause damage to the locations he targets. He has been active since August of last year near Lakeshore Boulevard W and Parklawn Road. He has allegedly broken windows, caused flooding, set off fire alarms and generally damaged commercial and condominiums locations. He is described as 5’8″, 150-160 lbs., clean-shaven, with dark hair. He has been observed running through the neighbourhood, with no shirt, on a number of occasions. Call (416) 808-2200 if you know him.

Wrong-way collision 401 at Oshawa in early morning dark

It seems unlikely but both drivers are still alive after a head-on collision on Highway 401 at Simcoe St in Oshawa early Sunday. OPP say it occurred just before dawn which is getting later each day. In one case the injuries are serious but the woman driver is expected to survive. The other driver received only minor injuries. Twitter

It’s estimated that some 8,000 students defied the Queen’s University administration and the police on Saturday to carouse on a campus street drinking. Some are said to have thrown stones at Kingston police.

Two attacked by dog at Kingston and Neilson police report

Toronto police Saturday called an ambulance to the corner of Kingston Rd. and Neilson Ave after reports of a dog having attacked two people. They subsequently reported the dog had been caught and was contained in the rear of a police cruiser. In their first disp[atch, the TPS warned residents to stay indoors until the dog was leashed. Early reports do not specify how seriously the two people were hurt.

TPS seeks driver who fled fatal on Burnhamthorpe Friday

Toronto Police are hunting a black sedan (below) that fled the scene of a fatal noon-hour accident at Burnhamthorpe Road and Shaver Avenue North on Friday. They say that two vehicles, the black car and a gold-coloured Pontiac Montana van were speeding west on Burnhamthorpe. As they approached Shaver the Pontiac van struck a Honda CRV being driven by a man, 59. He died at the scene. The van driver is in hospital with critical injuries.

Gates daughter weds fellow horse lover at equestrian farm

Bill and Melinda Gates eldest daughter, Jennifer Gates, 25, will wed her betrothed in a lavish Westchester County wedding Saturday. He is fellow equestrian Nayel Nassar. Now a picture taken Thursday has leaked showing Jennifer’s dad, Bill, 65, arriving at the bride’s 125-acre horse and riding farm by helicopter He is accompanied by his step-mother, Mimi Gardner Gates, 79, a respected art historian who married Gates late father, Bill Gates Sr., in 1995. That hat worn by Mimi is a black beanie with a flower-shaped topper. Ah, the good life.

Woman critically hurt after walking onto Hwy 401 at Yonge

A woman has been critically hurt when she was hit by a truck on eastbound Highway 401 near Yonge St Thursday afternoon. OPP say she apparently walked onto the highway. Her purpose in making this dangerous decision is unknown. No car or other vehicle has been found.



Do-or-die battle to save low-rise Davisville west of Bayview

SERRA, the South Eglinton Ratepayers and Residents Association, is sounding a battle-cry in the developing struggle to save the low-rise Davisville neighbourhood between Mt Pleasant and Bayview Ave. A City Community Consultation meeting next Monday (October 18) will acquaint homeowners with efforts to deny approval of a 23-storey tower on the southeast corner of Eglinton East and Hoyle Ave. As the SERRA news release suggests, the entire area faces the prospect of development similar to the canyons being built west of Mt.
