Latest count: Libs 158, CPC 119, Bloc 34, NDP 24, Green 2

•This informative Wikipedia post Tuesday morning gives the seat count above for Canada’s new House of Commons — another minority for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals. The resurgence of the Bloc Quebecois reveals a very Canadian outcome in which Quebec opts out of national politics and creates political uncertainty. It’s Canada.
Liberal Toronto and how
Predictions of a Liberal bonanza in Toronto have been fulfilled. There are essentially no changes among seats in Midtown Toronto. CTV has a full list of GTA outcomes here.
Conservatives win popular vote
The CPC won the most votes in the 2021 federal election but wasn’t able to translate that support into the most seats. Tory voters live in the wrong places to create a win in the HOC. They collected 34.1 percent of the gross ballots with the Liberals taking 31.8 percent of the total number of votes cast. That translated into 46.2 percent of the total seats for the Liberals (158 seats).
Yet more spending for everything it seems
This City News yack early Tuesday suggests a Liberal/NDP arrangement to introduce many new spending projects — nice but of course, someone has to pay.

by
•The push to remake South Bayview main streets continues with the proposal for a 35-storey condominium tower at 750 Mt. Pleasant Rd. It appears to show a commercial element at street level. This condo would be built next door to the playground of Eglinton Public School which sits on the southwest corner of Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton Ave. Also of note, the project will see the end to the busy little strip mall with parking. Urban Toronto

Faces: Pity Shemima, where’s Gabby and Amanda a triumph
by
•Faces that tell us of heartbreak and joy. On the left is Shemima Begum, the British-born girl who left England at 15 seven years ago to join ISIS and is now begging to be allowed to come home. It doesn’t look good. At centre is Gabby Petito, 22, who has vanished while on a US cross-country van trip with her boyfriend Brian Landrie. Some think the two sweethearts began to suffer emotional distress from too much closeness. Uh-huh. At right, the shining face of Amanda Gorman, 23, an eloquent young woman who is skyrocketing to stardom since her brief speech at Joe Biden’s inauguration. Wonderful.
