Fibe comes to Leaside wth surprise deliveries to back yard
by •
Many readers are commenting on Leaside Community this Saturday in response to a man who came home to find a large cable spool in his backyard. He believes there’s an easement for Bell and others to work back there when necessary. But he wondered just what was happening. It appears to be the arrival of fibre optic cable (fibe) in Leaside. A crew was busy Saturday morning installing a fibe box on Millwood Rd. at Sutherland Dr. outside the little plaza in the 900 block. At right, we see the unholy blockage caused in 2014 at Millwood and Bayview Ave. when fibe came to the Davisville side.

But officially, the race hasn’t started yet. Party president Rick Dykstra said the time frame will be established later. SUPER BOWL ADS
Canadian viewers will still be able to watch American ads when they watch the 2018 Super Bowl on American channels February 4. In a ruling dated Jan. 24, the Supreme Court of Canada rejected Bell Canada’s request for a stay of a CRTC regulation allowing U.S. ads to be shown on Canadian airwaves during the NFL championship game. That means the CRTC decision will almost certainly stay in place for this year’s game, pitting the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The owner of Terroni restaurants, Cosimo Mammoliti, and the Cumbrae’s butcher, Stephen Alexander, owner of the enormous Bayview Ave meat and sandwich shop, will join to open a 20,000 square foot store and restaurant in the soon to be completed Montgomery Square development on the corner of Yonge St. and Montgomery Ave. It is the site of the former Postal Station K, a heritage building saved by forward-thinking builder the Rockport Group. The 1936 landmark is seen in a Rockport depiction. The luxury rental building, still unfinished, will rise 27 storeys above Yonge at the site. Patrons of the as-yet unnamed Terroni-Cumbrae’s enterprise will be able to stroll about on the softly lighted square shown here. Book a reservation in the Spring of next year. Previous post.
