UK terror attacker’s parents under guard for their safety

The parents of Khalid Masood, the London terror attacker, are being protected by police from possible revenge attack at a remote location in Wales. This video is an excellent summary with many details. Then, scary video from Florida of a window washer hanging from only his safety belt after his scaffold collapsed. Below that, the compelling account from the person to whom Elizabeth Wettlaufer confessed her terrible crimes in Ontario nursing homes. Finally, the Jackie Kennedy character slugging the Teddy Kennedy character for seemingly trying to pitch woo (or worse) to the late president’s wife. Oh dear.

Mom wants to know what prompted crystal meth homework

The teacher who did it is gone from class at the Peel Board of Education, but one parent wants to know why he did it. It’s the case of the drama teacher who gave a boy instructions to go home and prepare a dramatization of how to inject crystal meth. The directions were explicit with all the ingredients described. The board is calling it a “personnel matter.” No doubt. CBC  Previous

People leaving Dundas Sq. Cineplex sprayed after “fight”

A group of people were pepper-sprayed outside the Cineplex Theatre at Yonge-Dundas Square Friday night after what is being called a fight. The details are limited. The CBC says the attack occurred as people were leaving the theatre. Police said both those effected by the spray and many who were not fled the scene to escape the attack. Shortly before 10 p.m. a caller told police that 30 to 40 people had been pepper sprayed on the northeast corner of the square outside the theatre. The assailant used a “fairly large canister” of the illegal spray, PC David Hopkinson told The Star newspaper. In April 2016, people were sprayed with noxious mist outside theatres in Scarborough and Mississauga in connection with a protest against a Tamil film,. The Yonge-Dndas Cineplex is playing two Indian movies but there is no suggestion that there is a connection with the spray attack.

Excellent series for Minor Bantam A East a credit to Leaside

The GTHL Minor Bantam A East Conference championship has been won by the Don Mills Mustangs in a 3-2 thriller against the Leaside Flames. The series required six points to win and was played out to a fourth game Friday night at the Etobicoke Canlan 4 complex on Martingrove Road. Mustang forward Damien McDonald had two goals and Rhys Mroueh scored the game winner on a setup by Chris Prangikos. Fans and parents agreed it was a shame that somebody had to lose the season at all. Bulldog reader Jane Domenico was saying this week that a number of the 15-and-under members of both teams are students at Bessborough Public School. The quality of the play by these two teams is a win for all of Leaside.

Video released of van in Carlaw and Riverdale hit-run

Police have released video from a private system showing the vehicle that fled the scene of an accident that sent a 60-year-old man to hospital from Carlaw and Riverdale Aves. Wednesday. They say the white commercial van was heading north on Carlaw and made a right hand turn at Riverdale. Remarkably, as the story is told, it somehow managed to get all the way across the roadway to the north sidewalk where the man was waiting to cross. Following the collision, police said the driver failed to remain at the scene. The vehicle involved was last seen travelling eastbound on Riverdale Avenue heading towards Pape Avenue. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The vehicle is described as a light-coloured GMC or Chevrolet cargo-style van, with front-end damage from the collision.

Pride of newly-independent Canada sold for $275.1 million

Toronto’s Dominion Public Building has sold for $275.1 million to Larco Investments Ltd. and many expect the private real estate firm from Vancouver to re-fashion it into a high-rise commercial and residential building. Under heritage protection all or much of the building would have to be saved. The 1930 building at 1 Front St. W. between Yonge and Bay Sts. dates from the days of Canada’s emergence from Imperial control into a nation-state Dominion. As seen above, the multi-purpose structure was intended to inspire pride.  Most cities had one. The Dominion Public Building in Hamilton has been restored into a showplace as the courthouse. The beaux-arts style building was sold by the Canada Lands Company (CLC), the crown corporation that acquires surplus federal government properties to manage their sale and redevelopment.

A year later, rogue cabbies are still switching debit cards

A year after Toronto Police first warned the public of a few tricky cab drivers switching debit cards when a fare is making payment, the scam is seeing another outbreak. The proximity with the card owner as payment is made also permits the theft of the PIN number, cops say. The rogue taxi driver secretly keeps the debit card and gives back one that’s similar. Now he can clean out the owner’s bank account. The racket is showing up among different cab companies and different banks. It takes advantage of perhaps intoxicated riders who do not pay enough attention to their business with taxi drivers. Police in 51 Division say there have ten cases in that area in less than a month.  More
