Drivers dead as their cars collide head-on in Pickering

Two men are dead in a head-on collision Monday on Taunton Road in Pickering. Their vehicles slammed together west of Altona Road, at about 11:25 p.m. The drivers were 21 and 35. They were pronounced dead at the scene. One was 21 from Ajax and the other, 35, from Stouffville. Slider photo courtesy Colin Williamson 

Airbus cabin overheats causing it to put down at Winnipeg

An Air Canada Airbus A320 suffered an overheated air system Monday causing several passengers to “feel unwell.” The fight from Toronto to Calgary landed at Winnipeg to get a fix. Passengers were looked at by paramedics and released. But they were delayed a night in Winnipeg awaiting another plane.

 

WORLD: Sable fur coats, Tea-Cup Crisis and Bondi Beach

Thieves have stolen more than 20 Sable coats worth $95,000 each from the Madison Ave shop of furrier Dennis Basso early Christmas morning. They hurled a piece of marble through the thick window and then one of the perpetrators was struck on the head by a heavy door frame as it collapsed. But they got away. There is however store video. Be on the lookout.

They’re saying that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans on being president-for-life and the latest example of his overweening pride is shown in the arrest of a mere cook who said he would not serve Erdogan tea if the president arrived in his cafeteria. God help Turkey.

Psychic says streaker will strike and Drake will have baby

Tera Deschamps of the Metro tab has returned to the ever-promising Toronto future-teller Psychic Nikki (upper left) for 2017 revelations. Hang on. Andy Byford, head of the TTC, will quit or be fired. Next, Drake will fall in love (or not) but he will have a baby. Wow. The leafs, says Nikki, might make a playoff berth. Hey, what’s with the “might” stuff. These are supposed to be predictions. And then even more off the wall comes a streaker at City Hall (yawn) and maybe some kind of flooding or curfew that will discomfit the City a bit. Doug Ford will run again and honestly Nikki how easy do you want them? In the past, says writer Deschamps, Nikki has forecast Rob Ford’s illness, John Tory’s election and food-related illnesses at the CNE. (A good one).

Flames from a malfunctioning sauna have destroyed a popular spa in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que. near Montreal Boxing Day. Spa customers were evacuated from Strom Spa Nordique without injury.

The critically acclaimed A Monster Calls will be on Toronto screens in January. It was featured at the Toronto film Festival earlier this year. Seems like a thoughtful treatment of the dark fears experienced by all of us, including the young.

Woman dies as snowmobile goes through ice at Penetang

OPP have recovered the body of a snowmobiler who went through the ice near Penetanguishene Bay Friday and  are warning again about the peril of venturing onto ice in changeable weather..The 25 year old woman who died in the incident is said to be a resident of Pentang.
