Prince Harry condemned the media for subjecting girlfriend Meghan Markle to “a wave of abuse and harassment,” issuing a highly unusual statement Tuesday that confirmed his relationship with the American actress and expressed concern for her safety. His office issued a statement saying: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” said the statement from Kensington Palace. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm.” It seems unlikely, according to the BBC, that the cynical British press will pay much attention to this “cry from the heart.”

Accused man in Letisha Reimer case is mute in court
by •
Gabriel Klein, 21, refused to speak today in court when spoken to about the killing of Letisha Reimer, 13, last Tuesday. Klein remained impassive as the Crown discussed his case in an Abbotsford B.C. court. He could be seen on a monitor seated in a wheelchair with his head cocked to the side, wrapped in a blanket apparently without a shirt on. Earlier he at first refused to participate in the hearing. Last Wednesday, the court heard that Klein wouldn’t leave his cell to stand before a judge. Is Letisha dead because he had argument with his mom?

Sassy Democrats on election eve say “Dream on Donald”
by •
It is U.S. general election day tomorrow and if unfiltered popular vote was the sole factor, Clinton would waltz into office. We think she will do that in any case but CNN’s John King has some interesting scenarios keeping in mind the state-by-state requirement of the Electoral College. He remarks however that the Democrats are saying “Dream on Donald.”

NSS girl’s cross-country five win gold for second year
by •
The five-girl team from Northern Secondary School has won the girls cross country race in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations competition in Port Hope. It is the second year in a row this team has won gold in the OFSSA event. Speedy Grade Tenners Eve Boyer, Parker Hopkins, Alex Weir, Ireland Robertson and Zoe Lexovsky are talking about taking this prize every year until they graduate. That would be quite a record. They report that this year’s race was run in bright and fairly warm weather on the campus of Trinity College. In 2015, the girls snatched victory from a wet and muddy course on farmland in the hamlet of Duntroon on the route to Collingwood. Alexandra Weir distinguished herself by finishing second in a field of 269 junior girls in the 4.2 kilometre race. Well done ladies. We’ll look for you next year at the OFSSA cross country

Justin Bieber’s Friday night recital at Richmond St. pub
by •
A man walked into a bar on Richmond Street Friday night and surprisingly it was Justin Bieber. He watched the Raptors game, didn’t get into a fight and then asked if he could play the piano. He did — some Beatles, some Beethoven. Nice. Owners of the Fifth Pubhouse released the video Sunday. The video is dark for those hoping for concert venue quality. Shorter Longer
