Vanessa Monteith is messaging friends in the Sunnybrook Dog Association on Facebook that a film crew is building a set in the parking lot “up by the barns”. Apparently it puts a crimp in dog walking. She goes on to say that 10 spots are allocated for public parking but today (Thursday) through Sunday the crew is filming so it isn’t clear whether there will space or not. Vanessa says the set is going to be a ship in a scene set in PEI. “Oh Hollywood,” she adds. The series is called Northwoods Anne, apparently a sequel to Anne of Green Gables.

Police warn of dishwashing pods in trick or treat bags

The criminal behaviour of those who would threaten the safety of kids at Halloween is hard to fathom but in the neighborhood northwest of St. Clair Ave W. and Caledonia Road someone was handing out dishwashing pods as candy treats. Children trick-or-treating with their parents in the Prescott Avenue, Blackthorn Avenue and Rockwell Avenue areas found the pods on getting home. As is known, the pods can be harmful if ingested, especially to children. If swallowed, detergent in even small amounts can be caustic and cause burns to the mouth, throat and airways.

Andy Elder rips Co-op cab for passing on McRae Drive

Leaside resident Andy Elder was startled to see a Co-op Cab (#241 in fact) barrel past him on McRae Drive Tuesday. He wrote this on Facebook: “This Co-op taxi just passed me on McRae before Bessborough as if there was a dotted centre line. I leaned on my horn as he was passing and when the driver got to Bessborough he slowed but didn’t come anywhere close to stopping at the sign. I caught up to him stopped at the red light at Millwood and McRae.”

Colonial Pipeline Co. was forced to shut down its main gasoline artery to the east coast of the United States late Monday after a maintenance crew in Alabama accidentally hit the line with a trackhoe, creating a spark that set off a massive explosion. One worker died at the scene and five more were taken to Birmingham-area hospitals with severe burns. BNN
