Aaron Sanchez will try to dispatch Texas tonight in Toronto

Circumstances could hardly be more auspicious as the Blue Jay prepare to meet the Texas Rangers tonight at 7.30 at Rogers Centre. They will hand the ball to ace starter Aaron Sanchez with the mission of winning their way into the AL championship in three games. If necessary, there will be a game tomorrow afternoon (or evening) as events warrant. The Rangers will ask Colby Lewis to keep their season going. Let’s not be too cocky but it does feel good!

Robert De Niro: I’d like to punch Donald Trump in face

There’s too much reaction to Donald Trump’s “locker room” vulgarities audio (which actually occurred on a bus in 2005) to run it all. We’ve chosen Robert De Niro’s lively rant.

Willing volunteers fulfilled the goal of Sarah and Claire’s Food Drive Saturday at the South Bayview Valu mart at 1500 Bayview Ave. People both notable and those just happy to be helping out built 160 hampers (including a valued frozen turkey) for needy families served at Thanksgiving by the Daily Bread Food Bank. Councillor Jon Burnside, Gail Nyberg, head of Daily Bread, local philanthropist Realtor Patrick Rocca, Valu mart manager Mike Tufts and many others pitched in. In the centre, a small family made up of mom and dad Lynda Debono and Mark Jordan with their daughters Sarah and Claire, after whom this community food drive is named.

Matlow update cites high-rise projects he opposes

Josh Matlow (Ward 22) has published his regular update. Among a number of items of interest in the update he discusses developments to which he is opposed. These ventures are part of the excited (if not hysterical) anticipation of the Crosstown LRT.  They are 18 Brownlow Avenue, 89-101 Roehampton and 55 Eglinton Ave. E. Previous.  The full Ward 22 Update is available at Mr. Matlow’s website.

Speculation cools that Whole Foods a takeover target

Hot speculation Thursday that Whole Foods Market might be taken over by U.S. grocery giant Kroger began to cool Friday.  New York analysts say Kroger is not seeking to acquire the  Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods and is more likely to expand its product offering or explore a smaller deal. Word that Whole Foods might be on the market is of interest in Toronto because of that firm’s locations here, and especially because of the yet-to-appear store at 1860 Bayview Ave.

1860 BAYVIEW AVE.

Recent remarks by Jeffrey Thompson, of RioCan, owner of 1860 Bayview, emphatically declared that WF would open at its Bayview and Broadway location, despite speculation that the grocer could pull out of the deal. Most observers  believe Whole Foods delay in opening in South Bayview is related to business conditions in the U.S. WF has seen sliding results through four quarters and continues to be mocked for products which seem superficial. The most notable example of this was “asparagus water” for $6 U.S.  A recent satire on HBO contained skits about ads for a block of ice with an avocado balanced on top for $25.99, a pomegranate that listened to National Public Radio $64.99, granola blown back and forth between two fans for $300 and tilapia wearing yoga pants for $84.99. RioCan executive says Whole Foods WILL open on Bayview

Trump’s vulgar “locker room” tape new campaign bomb

An audio recording of Donald Trump in what might be called vulgar locker room talk with other men has been released and published in the Washington Post. The language is quite lewd for those who may not wish to listen. Here is an excerpt from the program Outfront with Erin Burnett in which a woman who works for Trump makes a valiant attempt to defend him, and here a link to the audio recording itself.

Construction at Bayview and Moore continues into the night

Friday night was an all-nighter of sorts as the reconstruction of Bayview Ave and Moore Ave continues into the darkness. Road repaving extends north to Sutherland and sidewalk construction extends north past the Hasty Market and east past Loblaw to Pottery Road. Parking is tricky. In the video above, traffic both north and southbound was compressed into the lanes on the east side of Bayview. There’s a lot of impatient horn-honking and construction workers are telling motorists stuck in the middle of the intersection on a red light to back up. What fun.

Macaroni and jello treats in a pumpkin delight everyone

The Cincinnati Zoo began Halloween celebrations by giving its gorillas jack-o-lantern pumpkins filled with cooked macaroni and Jello. The treats went down very well with the big hairy primates and it was fun for the kids to see the gorillas eat out of pumpkins. Probably no complaints either that the animals got to keep this odd combination for themselves. You know how picky kids are.
