The Leaside Wildcats battled the Boston-area East Coast Wizards (U19) to a 2-2 tie in exhibition play Sunday in Providence, Rhode Island. The tie will partly salve the sting of that 8-1 loss to the Providence College Friars on Saturday. The Cats come home to a couple of practices in Leaside this week before their first game of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League on Friday against the Oakville Hornets. By then the Hornets will have five games behind them. Wildcats and Hornets meet at 8.30 in Oakville at Joshua’s Creek Arenas, 1563 North Service Road E. .

Barbecue and food drive kickoff today at Grilltime
by •
Sarah and Clair’s Food Drive will kickoff on Saturday, September 24 starting at noon with a barbecue at Andy Elder’s Grilltime meat store, 62 Laird Drive at Kenrae Road. This annual food drive inspired by two Leaside sisters will once again raise food for the Daily Bread Food Bank. The drive is so named because of a child’s curiosity about just how children less fortunate than herself were fed. The barbecue will feature state-of-the-art cooking gear demonstrated by Broil King representative Naz and sausages donated by Black Knight Meats and Spices. They’ll be served on COBs buns. How about this. Amsterdam Brewery will be present to provide sampling. Say “hi” to Sarah and Claire, their parents Lynda Debono and Mark Jordan and grab a juicy plate of barbecue. See you at the kickoff to Sarah and Clair’s Food Drive. Published first September 16, 2016.
