Sunny and rainy altogether Sunday on South Bayview
by •
It was dark with lots of pelting precipitation on South Bayview when the clock struck one Sunday afternoon but two o’clock brought sunshine and hordes or people for their Mother’s Day errands. Then more rain about 4 p.m. Hope you found time to stroll or stride along the wide sidewalks of our favorite business district. Happy Mom’s Day.
Woman cancels wedding but invites needy to her reception
by •
Yiru Sun decided to cancel her wedding when she did not like the pre-nuptial agreement that was put before her. The Princeton graduate and Corporate Vice President at New York Life Insurance moved on immediately by converting her prepaid $8,000 reception into a fancy lunch at the luxurious Harold Pratt House in Manhattan for 60 needy people. The event has also helped Yuri, single mother to a six-year-old girl, take her mind off her cancelled wedding. Yuri spoke of growing up poor in China before getting to the U.S. and winning a full scholarship to obtain her PhD in electrical engineering at Princeton. A remarkable woman and a remarkable act.

Citizen “traffic study” suggests a stop light at Soudan
by •
You don’t have to be city planner to know there are an awful of cars trying to get through the intersection of Bayview Ave and Soudan Ave/Parkhurst Blvd. Try to count them in this two-minute video. It was shot this Saturday around 5.30 but those who live around here can recall at least three nasty events at the corner in six or seven months. The crosswalk (like most crosswalks) has proven dangerous for some people and there are lots of pedestrians. Merchants in the north block think their customers would be safer getting in and out of their cars if traffic were stopped at both Manor Rd and Soudan, the way it is on Mt. Pleasant.
Some retail news from Mt. Pleasant and Belsize Drive

Pleasant is now open and the pot pharmacy concept continues to startle local residents. “What? Do they sell pot in there,” one passerby blurted today. Green Room marijuana “pharmacy” to open on Mt. Oh dear! K-Pop is more fun, less grim than rap, rap, rap
by •
The CBC assays the current state of K-Pop (South Korean bubble gum music) and some older ears find it more fun than rap. K-Pop shook kid-life a couple of years ago with the lunacy of Psy (Gangnam Style) and now a group called SHINee (pronounced shiny) is thrilling fans at the two-day Hallyu North festival at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place.
