ActiveTO returns to Bayview Avenue Victoria Day weekend

City of Toronto announced that ActiveTO will take place over the Victoria Day long weekend along sections of Lake Shore Boulevard West, Bayview Avenue and The Meadoway. These road closures are recurring short-term closures of major streets adjacent to highly used trails — ActiveTO routes are open to pedestrians and people cycling and closed to vehicles. Residents planning to use ActiveTO routes are asked to access them by bike or as a pedestrian, as there is no available on-site parking and limited nearby parking.

ActiveTO will take place on:

Saturday, May 21 at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 22

  • Bayview Avenue from Rosedale Valley Road to Lawren Harris Square,
  • River Street between Bayview Avenue and Spruce Street
  • and The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road

Monday, May 23 (Victoria Day) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only), between Windermere Avenue and Stadium Road

Saturday, May 28 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 29

  • Bayview Avenue from Rosedale Valley Road to Lawren Harris Square, River Street between Bayview Avenue and Spruce Street
  • and The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road will be closed to vehicle traffic

Sunday, May 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Roads within High Park will also be closed to vehicles on all three days of the long weekend. Limited street parking is available on Bloor Street. More information about access to High Park is available on the City’s High Park webpage.

Heart & Stroke will be holding its Ride for Heart event along the Lake Shore Boulevard West ActiveTO closure on Sunday, May 29. The event aims to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke and will be a warm-up for the Manulife Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart, which celebrates its 35th anniversary on June 5. Heart & Stroke street teams will be on site on May 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

They will still operate for another two weeks before handing over the reins to the new owners on May 29th. The announcement reads:

Hey! Firstly just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has continued to support us. Unfortunately we have sold the business and these next 2 weeks will be our last serving the Leaside community. Our last day will be Sunday May 29th and we hope to see you before we are gone. Thank you for all the amazing relationships we have made during our time here. It was a tough decision but we have decided to move on from the Green Canoe. Mooredale’s Mayfair was sunny, sweet and sooo much fun!

It was a perfect hot sunny day for this year’s Mooredale Mayfair. Everybody at the park got along with each other and helped each other get on the rides by giving tickets to each other if they were short. Strangers even helped save a spot so they could run off to find a child. Cooperation and community spirit was on full display. This year was the first time in 75 years of Mayfair that they sold out for the all day wristbands before the actual fair, it was also the first year that it was completely cashless. Looks like it was a fun-filled afternoon of cotton candy and thrilling rides for the youngsters in the photos, provided to the Bulldog by area resident Rani Jamieson.
