Russia running “state-sponsored” doping of athletes

Russia should be banned from athletics competition, a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission report has recommended. Wada’s independent commission examined allegations of doping, cover-ups, and extortion in Russian athletics, which also implicated the IAAF, the sport’s world governing body. It also wants five athletes and five coaches to get lifetime doping bans. In addition, it states the London 2012 Olympics were “sabotaged” by the “widespread inaction” against Russian athletes with suspicious doping profiles by the IAAF and the Russian athletics federation. Commission leader Dick Pound said Russia seemed to have been running a “state-supported” doping programme and also gave his backing to IAAF president Lord Coe, saying he was the right man to lead the governing body.

Digital CIBC open Monday with (gasp) desk and terminals

digital

The CIBC branch at 1529 Bayview Ave. re-opens tomorrow (Monday. November 9, 2015) a harbinger perhaps of digital delights yet to come in Canadian banking. We know the tellers are still on staff but they have other jobs, at least nominally. Will you still see the same faces? We’re not sure but as this peek through the locked front doors on Sunday shows there is a new desk where once there was a counter and wickets. On the desk are several terminals. The sign on the desk says on the move. To the left, there’s what appears to be a souped up ATM. The picture below shows a wider view with offices still there and what appears to a new forward desk closer to the front door.

Grandstand Place families clean up after Saturday flood

Residents of the apartment at 2 Grandstand Place at the corner of Thorncliffe Park Drive are still trying to clean up Sunday (November 8, 2015) after an apparent burst water main flooded five first floor units. As the CBC video above shows,. the homes are largely unlivable after the soaking. “The apartment is destroyed – totally,” building resident Walter Pinto told CTV. “There’s about six to eight inches of water running right through.”  Mr. Pinto said he had has lived in the building for about 15 years. He said he woke up Saturday morning to find water rushing into the utility room. The flooding also forced the shutdown of the power and heating systems. Residents say they suspect that work last week on a water line across the street may be to blame. Water entered the apartment through the building’s boiler room.
