Kids get prom dresses, suits and shoes at New Circles

As many as 500 high school kids from Thorncliffe Park and Flemindon Park have the opportunity this weekend to pick wonderful gowns, suits and shoes to wear to their Spring Proms. For most, such clothes would be impossible. But the New Circles Community Services of East York has once again collected and displayed the apparel at its Bartley Drive headquarters so students can pick their choice. Nor would any of it happen without the generosity of many people living in South Bayview who make an annual donation to this fine charity. Above we see some good-looking prom dancing shoes and Volunteer worker Alexa Rocca showing a fine pink sequined gown.
Don Valley cleaning clogs street with through traffic

The things South Bayview residents do for the City of Toronto. Besides paying taxes, we accommodate this massive flood of vehicles twice a year when the Don Valley Parkway is cleaned. Keep in mind, we do it cheerfully and without rancour of any kind. This is the corner of Merton St. at 11.30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015. Look at the lineup on McRae Drive waiting to enter Bayview. East York cops arrest man in cross-border sex case

55 Division police have arrested a 47-year-old man at Pearson Airport as he was apparently about to board a plane to meet a child. The investigation is a joint operation of Toronto Police Child Exploitation Section and U.S. Homeland Security. Scott Hughes, 47, of Toronto is in custody. The circumstances reportedly invovle a man communicating with children online and arranging to meet a child. Police have released some of the online identity in their search for other possible victims. The man as using the email: scotthughes2003@yahoo.com, and usernames “Schughes” “Scott Hughes (Digger)” to communicate with children online.
Man robs TTC collect booths at Chester, Rosedale stations

A subway bandit has robbed two local TTC collector booths overnight. The man was armed with a gun as he demand money at the Chester Station on Danforth and then moved up to the Rosedale Station. No injuries were reported and police did not say how much cash was taken.

It should be a livable and lively day to shop on Bayview, Mt. Pleasant or other venues in South Bayview. Everything is open including the Davenport Nursery stand at the corner of Davisville Ave and Bayview. The St Cuthbert’s Spring Fair opens at 11 a.m. at the church, 1399 Bayview. Always fun to look in on this traditional event. .
Hamilton is at war with Canada Post over group mailboxes

The City of Hamilton is engaged in an all out legal battle to stop the construction of group mailboxes in the City. It is a campaign that has been going on for many months. Yesterday the City laid charges against Canada Post under a new bylaw that would prevent placement of boxes without permission. Residents have blocked construction sites with bushes and other materials. Canada Post is challenging the law in court. The Hamilton vs Canada Post is among the more startling examples of a community determined to stop boxes appearing wherever the post office wants. A court date is expected soon. Hamilton Spectator
