Wanted for arson in Kensington Market
by •
Police say this man is their pick for the firebug who set two fires in Kensington Market, one them a multi-alarm blaze in row houses at Oxford St. and Spadina Ave. Here we see him in the neighborhood visiting a convenience store. Cops seem very sure they have identified the arsonist. Many will be watching closely because this excellent depiction would seem to suggest an early arrest. Police say he also set a fire in a garage. Shades of that series of fires in Bennington Heights, a crime that a lot of people in South Bayview take personally. The garage fire was investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal and is determined to have been set deliberately. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at 222tips.com, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637), or Leave A Tip on Facebook. Moses Znaimer seeking control of Sun Network
by •
The Globe and Mail’s James Bradshaw reports that Moses Znaimer is “hoping to expand his reach on the TV dial by acquiring the money-losing Sun News Network from Quebecor Inc.” “According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Mr. Znaimer is eager to make a deal that would see ZoomerMedia Ltd., a company he controls, buy the news and opinion channel before the year is over. Mr. Znaimer currently has exclusive negotiating rights, and the price of the purchase would be low, the source said,” Bradshaw writes. Full story

Be of good cheer. It has been lousy in many ways, not the least for local merchants on South Bayview and Mount Pleasant. The streets were a bit of a ghost town. But look at the forecast above from the Weather Network and smile. The driving has been perilous, with police reporting an accident every three minutes earlier today.
