Zzavia Pizzeria (1597 Bayview Ave) is set to bring a fresh perspective to pizza in Leaside. As noted by Megan Gallant in the North Toronto Post (October 2024), Executive Chef Abu, whose experience spans top spots like Gusto 501 and Terroni, is leading the kitchen with a passion for pizza. Zzavia specializes in Roman-style pies with five-day fermented dough and quick-cooking Napoletana pizzas baked in just 45 seconds. With a focus on quality ingredients and a range of unique flavours like mascarpone and truffle funghi, Zzavia is already sparking local interest.

The Leaside Garden Society invites you to an in-person Speaker Series event at the Leaside Library on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at 7:00 PM.

Join Stephen Smith, a Leaside-based arborist and owner of Urban Forest Associates, as he discusses the impact of climate change on our local tree canopy. Stephen has over 30 years of experience working on conservation projects such as the Task Force to Bring Back the Don and the Forest Gene Conservation Association. Raised in Toronto, he brings a lifetime of expertise in managing urban trees and restoring ecological balance.

Stephen will provide valuable insights into how Leaside’s trees may evolve over the next two decades and offer tips for homeowners on how to protect and preserve our local green spaces. Guests and new members are welcome to attend.

Bayview Avenue had its seasonal switchover this past weekend, as crews replaced summer blooms with beautiful fall plantings. Ornamental peppers, cabbage, grasses, and mums now fill the tree boxes and planters throughout the Bayview-Leaside BIA area. The refreshed greenery sets the stage perfectly for the upcoming Applefest, scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join in the festivities and enjoy the newly adorned streets!

A thirty-plus storey tower on Glenavy Ave @ Glazebrook?

Elysium Investments has told the STOREYS real estate news site that they are in the process of filing official plan, zoning by-law amendment, and site plan applications for a tower slated for 17-29 Glenavy Avenue.

Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment application to permit the redevelopment of the subject site with a 39-storey rental residential building (134.5 metres, including the mechanical penthouse). The proposed building will have a total gross floor area of approximately 30,410 square metres, resulting in a density of 14.5 FSI. The development will include 398 rental dwelling units along with 2,399 square metres of amenity space.

The redevelopment plans for 25 Imperial Street near Davisville subway station have been revised once more, now proposing a 21-storey condominium. The original 2021 submission called for a 14-storey building, but subsequent revisions in 2022 and 2023 raised the height to 19 storeys. After securing an Agreement of Purchase and Sale for an adjacent property in December 2023, the developer has resubmitted the proposal to reflect the expanded site. Leaside comes alive at inaugural Viva La Leaside Festival

The inaugural Viva La Leaside Festival, held August 31st – September 1st, 2024 on Commercial Road in the Leaside Business Park, was a fantastic celebration of heritage and community spirit. Hosted by Motorista Studio and the Leaside Heritage Preservation Society, the event featured live bands, a DJ, classic cars, graffiti artists, games for kids, and much more. Families enjoyed delicious BBQ, empanadas, lemonade, and ice cream while engaging in various activities, like hula-hooping, playing arcade games and taking pictures with the iconic Sunnybrook clock. With such an enthusiastic turnout, attendees are already hoping for a repeat next year! Check out the video above to catch some of our highlights from the festival.
